The Arms Hotel Lobby, Tuesday [1/25]

Mary wasn't sure why a special delivery arrived at the hotel this morning. She certainly hadn't ordered the shovel that was in the box, though she suspected that Gunther had something to do with it. He was always ordering strange things from late-night infomercials.

Who has a free shovel if anyone needs one.

Shelley had heard that The Arms served a pretty good lunch, and being out of food back at the apartment, decided to brave the chill and give it a try.

"Do they serve the food in the lobby?" she wondered aloud.

Mary, having just gotten off the phone with the shipping company to find out where the mystery shovel had come from, happened to overhear Shelley's question.

"Sort of. The seating area for our in-house restaurant spills out into the lobby," she tried to explain as she pulled out a menu. "Did you want to order something?"

"I would like something delicious," she replied, looking over the menu. "I didn't even realize you all had food until just the other day." Shelley was trying to get out more.

"We have room service available all day, so it just made sense to add a restaurant. Also, it keeps the chef busy, which hopefully keeps him out of trouble," said Mary, giving a sideways glance at the shovel, which was propped up against the front desk. "There's a pasta dish on special today that's really good. It's some sort of fancy spaghetti in a cream sauce with bacon. That's what I had for lunch."

"So how many hours on an elliptical to work that dish off?" Shelley asked with a laugh. "Though, it is cold, so maybe I should give it a try."

She glanced over at the box as well, mostly because she had noticed Mary's eyes go that way. Was she supposed to mention the box?

"I've heard that you burn more calories trying to stay warm in the winter, though I do try to visit the gym frequently when Gunther starts cooking Italian food," said Mary, grinning.

"You, uh, wouldn't happen to know anyone who needs a shovel, would you?" she asked. "I got this special delivery this morning and the only thing in the box was a shovel. I have absolutely no use for a shovel unless there's another invasion."

"Well, I don't own a shovel," Shelley said, wondering if it was something she could use. "Though, I live in an apartment, so I don't think I would really have a use for it either. Unless it snows indoors."

She frowned. "Can it snow indoors?" Shelley would probably never get used to this climate.

"I don't it snows indoors in most places, but this island seems to like being different," said Mary. "It rains candy from time to time, though that stays outdoors. But I did have bears try to come inside one time. I guess having a shovel would be useful for bear attacks, if that ever happens again."

"You should totally keep the shovel then," she decided, thinking she might go buy one herself, after lunch.

"Let me ask you something else," she said, never wanting to pass up an opportunity for girl talk. "Do you find the cold weather makes your boobs ache? I think it's the implants, but I'm not sure."

Mary chuckled. "They hurt when I'm PMS-ing, but I haven't noticed a difference when it's cold. The humidity really seems to irritate my skin sometimes, though. I grew up in Las Vegas and it feels strange not to be in the desert," she said.

"I freaking love Vegas! I worked at the Bunny Club there for a little while, before I moved into the Mansion. The lights, the music, the tasty little cocktails..." She sighed.

"Do you miss it?" asked Mary. "Fandom is so much quieter and I know it took me a long time to get used to not going out every night. Sometimes I think I can still hear the slot machines."

"Well, getting on in years now, I think I can appreciate the quieter, simpler things in life," she lied. Sometimes you needed to tell lies to keep yourself sane.

"But I've been working on some projects, trying to keep myself busy." She looked Mary over, thinking she might be a perfect addition to her current project.

"Keeping busy is good. I try to do the same," said Mary. "The nice thing about owning a hotel is that I never run out of interior design projects."

"Oh, that sounds way cool!" Shelley had done some work on her apartment after Dimitri left, but that consisted of buying as many pink throw pillows as she could find and tossing them on the couch and chairs.

"How do you feel about photo shoots? I've been thinking about putting together a Fandom charity calendar of like the fierce women of the island doing awesome things." She still hadn't figured out the charitable cause, but she had reached out to some of her former photographers.

"That sounds like a great idea!" said Mary, unable to hold back her enthusiasm. "It would be so much fun. I'd love to help out."

"Fantastic!" Shelley extended her hand. "I'm Shelley. I'm a fashion consultant at Pixie Dust and a model." Well, in her previous life, at least.

"Nice to meet you, Shelley. I'm Mary, the owner of the Arms Hotel. You know, I've done quite a bit of shopping at Pixie Dust, but it's been a while since I updated my wardrobe," she said as she returned the handshake. Her closet upstairs was full of bustiers that blended right in at Club Mystique but looked out of place in Fandom.

"Well I'm there every Wednesday if you want to come by sometime for a consultation," Shelley stated.

"So, if you were going to pick a favorite month, what would it be?" she inquired.

"I'd have to say June," said Mary, not needing a lot of time to think. "The weather is good, the days are longer, and the beaches are open."

"June is a great month," she agreed. "And bikini weather! Do you have any special powers or anything you would want to show off in a photo shoot?" In an odd way, this questions felt totally normal.

"Oh no, I don't have any special powers at all. I'm perfectly ordinary. There's nothing special about me," said Mary. Except maybe the extraordinary figure, but she tended to forget about it until people stared.

In case you'd rather avoid the redhead with a shovel. Gunther is certainly keeping his distance.

Oh Farmville, I am so tired of getting useless things from my special delivery boxes.
