The Causeway, Tuesday evening

He ran, and he had always been running. Feet bloody from running across asphalt with no shoes, shirt gone...somewhere...he ran like something terrible was going to catch up with him at any second.

For all he knew it might be. He couldn't remember anything. There was only blackness in his mind. And panic.

Sookie

Sookie was out for an evening walk, her hands shoved in her pockets as she moved. She sort of hoped that maybe if she walked out at night, Claudine would find her, and teach her more. She hadn't figured out how to call her yet, exactly, but she hoped that if she wished hard enough, she'd see her. So she walked quietly, trying to keep warm.

Eric

A flash of white might catch her attention, as even in Fandom, it was probably unusual to see someone running around shirtless in February.

Sookie

Sookie did, in fact, see that. And not only was it unusual to see someone running around with no shirt in the winter, it was even weirder to see someone that big with no shirt in the winter.

A scan of his brain told her vampire, and while her instincts were telling her no, Sookie had to take a chance. Because how many blond, huge vampires could there be? "...Eric?"

Eric

He stopped his sprint and approached warily. "You know me?" he asked the young blonde before him.

Sookie

"Um, duh, and why are you running around on my island with no shirt and no shoes?" she asked pleasantly, staring at him.

Eric

There was a very long pause.

"I don't know," he said finally.

Sookie

Sookie stared at him for a long moment, before holding up three fingers on her right hand. "How many fingers?"

Eric

"Three," Eric replied promptly.

Sookie

"And what's your name?" Sookie asked. Hopefully he hadn't hit his head.

Eric

There was a pause. "You called me Eric," he said with a hint of a question in his voice.

Sookie

"Yes, because that's your name," Sookie said carefully. "Eric Northman?"

Eric

"It is?" Eric replied plaintively, moving closer to her. If she looked closely, she'd notice his feet were bleeding. "I don't remember."

Sookie

"Honey, your feet," Sookie breathed, lapsing into a sort of gentleness with him despite herself. He just seemed so timid. Very...not Eric. "Let's sit down so I can look at those, okay? What's the last thing you remember?"

Eric

"Running," he said, letting her lead him to a place to sit down. "Before that it's all darkness."

Sookie

"You don't know how you got here?" she checked.

Eric

He shook his head. "I don't even know where here is."

Sookie

Sookie paused before asking, "And you don't know me, either?"

Eric

"No," Eric admitted.

Sookie

"Okay." Sookie was slowly processing this. "Okay, well. My name is Sookie, and you're on an island off the coast of Maryland."

Eric

"Hello, Sookie," Eric said, giving her a shy smile. "May I stay with you? If your family will not mind, naturally."

Sookie

"I would normally be fine with that," Sookie hedged, though she suspected that Bobby, Karla, and assorted sundry would not, "but I don't have a facility for you. Let me call a friend who does, okay?"

Eric

Eric nodded, shifting closer clingily. "Okay."
