Ellie was, once again, working on a movie review for the newspaper when she had free time. Last week, she had writer's block. Today, she knew exactly what she wanted to write. It helped that she had plenty of caffeine.

The man in question entered the door of the Arms Hotel wearing his suit and a pair of sunglasses. He surveyed the lobby, observed the specials of the day before approaching the front desk.

"Excuse me, young lady," he said in a no-nonsense kind of tone. "I believe you may have an open ended reservation under the name 'Mannheim'."

That is he would have had a reservation if Jay hadn't trusted the Worms to make the reservations.

Ellie quickly closed her laptop and was back in greet mode. She gave a polite smile and then got on the hotel computer. "Let me look that up for you. Mannheim, did you say?"

She wanted to make sure she heard that right. After all, she considered herself a thorough hotel receptionist.

"Correct," Kay replied as he lightly drummed his fingers on the counter. "M-a-double-n-h-i-e-m. First initial, K."

Ellie typed the name into the hotel's reservation search, waiting a moment for the results. When she didn't get any, she typed it again just to make sure. "I'm not seeing that name in here. Are you sure a reservation was made for this hotel?"

There could have been a glitch in the hotel's computer system, though she highly doubted that possibility.

A scowl crossed K's face as he rapped his knuckles a couple of times on the counter in annoyance. "I'm beginning to doubt it," he replied. "I don't suppose a room would be available?"

"You're in luck," Ellie said, grinning. She, once again, searched through the database. "Looks like room 321 is available. Would that be okay?"

"321 would be just fine," K said with a very small grin.

You really had to look for that grin.

"At this time I don't have a checkout date. Will that be a problem?"

"Not a problem at all. You wouldn't be the only one staying here without a checkout date," Ellie informed him. "The room has all the usual hotel amenities including Internet service. Room service is also available. The restaurant here has great food. And every room has a great view."

She was doing her best to sell what the hotel had to offer. It was her job, after all.

"Excellent," K replied with a nod. "Tell me... can you recommend anything around here with a historical background about this island?"

"The library at the school," Ellie replied, not even having to think about it. "Town Hall might have a few records available, but the library is probably your best chance at finding that kind of information."

"Thank you," K said with a nod. "You've been a big help."

"You're welcome," Ellie replied as she reached for the key to room 321. "Here's your key. Enjoy your stay."

K took the keys and gave Ellie a small salute with them. "Much obliged, miss."

And then headed to his room to call and chew out J.
