The Perk- Thursday evening

Jaina liked that so far, nothing weird had happened today. No weird naked baby angels trying to shoot at her with anything, no rose petals, nothing. This meant that she was happy to get out of her apartment for a while and get coffee.

It was just that she made the mistake of sitting on one of the sofas while she waited for her order, completely unaware of the love monkey perched on the far arm of it, waiting to pounce on the first person to sit. So that was how Jaina ended up with a cuddly monkey attached to her arm, because it had found someone to hug and apparently it wasn't letting go. The annoying thing was, every time Jaina tried to get it off of her, it'd look up at her with big eyes and she felt bad. When they called her order and she had to get her coffee with a monkey still attached to her forearm, she told it, "I am not taking you home with me," and reclaimed her seat on the sofa because apparently she was going to be here for a while.

[Come play with love monkeys with me.]

"You've got a monkey on your arm," Lucas said. He was just going to leave after getting his coffee, but Jaina had a monkey on her arm.

"Yeah, very funny," Lucas said. "Why is there a monkey on your arm?"

"I can get it off if you want. Monkeys don't react well to getting coffee thrown on them," Lucas suggested. Because he was evil.

"Then don't blame me if you get monkey rabies," Lucas said.

"Fine, monkey cooties," Lucas said.

"The important thing is that you've learned something about disease. The more you know," Lucas said, starting to walk away before stopping and turning back to Jaina. "I actually just said that, didn't I?"

"I have to cut that schtick from my radio broadcasts. You don't listen?" Lucas asked.

"Clearly you have no taste if you haven't paid careful attention to every word I say during a performance, so it doesn't matter," Lucas said.

And then a monkey tackle-hugged Lucas's coffee cup out of his hand. And then the monkey started drinking the coffee.

"Let's see if you think the same thing when you're in the same room as a monkey hopped up on caffeine," Lucas said.

"Are you sure? Because I think the monkey on your arm wants an espresso," Lucas mused.

Jaina was lucky enough to have it attached to her arm. Summer, on the other hand, had a love monkey attached to her leg. That didn't make walking difficult for her at all, oh no.

"Please tell me there is a way to get them off?" If that sounded like desperation in her tone, it was total coincidence. Really.

Summer would have laughed at that (and then felt bad afterward) if it happened to be someone else, so she couldn't blame Jaina if she ended up laughing.

"It just clings tighter," Summer sighed, sending a glare in the monkey's direction. "Maybe if I buy it a treat?" Hey, it seemed as good an idea as any.

"Yeah, you're the lucky one here," Summer nodded. She would've found this a bit funnier if the monkey was attached somewhere on her upper body. "Would it be too cliche of me to try banana bread?"

[identity profile] takesaftermom.livejournal.com 2011-02-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Here's hoping it works," Summer was tempted to cross her fingers for extra luck. She looked down at the monkey and then back at Jaina. "That would be great, thanks."

Stupid monkey. Even if it was kind of cute, it was still stupid.

"I will take full responsibility for whatever happens now," Summer promised. "And I apologize in advance if you end up with two monkeys after this."

Taking the plate from Jaina, Summer broke off a piece of bread and held it out to the monkey in hopes of getting it off her. Instead, she now had a monkey latched onto her wrist. "Damn it."

"The silver lining," Summer agreed, cracking a smile. "And the little guy's kind of cute when it's not holding onto my leg for dear life."

"I think I can deal, now that's it up here," Summer agreed, giving the monkey another piece of banana bread. It really was adorable.

No, Summer. You can't keep it.
