The Park, In The Early Hours Of Saturday Morn'

Maybe someone had ordered the portal a little early. Maybe something had gone wrong. Maybe the universe had just planned it this way, to make sure people didn't get too comfortable with everything on the island.

Whatever the case was, there was a portal. It flickered almost gently to life, a giant thing between the trees. When it solidified, it began to pulse-- letting things through.

Or... wait. Not things.

Children.

Hope you picked a discrete place to end your Valentine's Dance night...

[[ for kidlets, parentals, and so on! it's AU kids weekend! ]]

William Finn Scully might have been awake way early, way way early, when he wasn't supposed to be. And might have been playing in his back yard, when he saw the blue swirly whirlpool.

"Oooooops!" He landed on his back in the middle of the park, blinking up at the sky.

Mommy and Daddy were going to be really mad. And worried. And mad.

Better to have an adventure before they tracked him down!

[identity profile] scullyscions.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
From an entirely different universe and direction from the red-headed little boy who'd tumbled out only moments before, a little girl walked out of the portal.

She turned around to study it, folding her arms, then poking at it with one finger, and trying to walk back into it.

"Hmmmmmm." Nothing doing. Okay, if it wasn't aliens (maybe it was aliens?) it was time to find someone in charge.

Melinda Wayne Scully looked around, then set out with determination... unless she ran into a coffee shop first.

Honestly, James thought the portal was a Door until he stepped through it and wasn't anywhere he was supposed to be, his link to the Carrier suddenly severed for the first time in his life. The shock of it threw him to his knees, but he recovered quickly and pulled up the local network in his head.

His mother was the spirit of electricity. His father was the god of cities. James talked to networks, and all of his aunts and uncles agreed it was a very good thing he hadn't decided to take over the world yet.

So. Where was he? Fandom. Maryland. Virginia. An island, he found, with some very tricky technology. The biggest network seemed to be a boarding school, so he checked that out, and--there, what was that? Something familiar. He pulled it up, completely oblivious to any sort of security measures that might have been in place, and found...a student file.

Jennifer Anne Sparks. Residing in room 401, and a lot of other information that he dismissed as irrelevant. The name and the photo were all he needed to see.

"Mom?"

Stan had totally seen weirder things in his ten years than randomly appearing swirly blue portals. One would think he'd seen them often enough not to mess with them.

But then, he wouldn't be his parents' son.

He came out the other end in a roll, then sat up and adjusted his glasses. He was neither in the warehouse, nor Eureka.

So many people were going to kill him, for this.

Some kids might have been the type to go out and hunt down their parents. Not Terry. He was out in the park and therefore nobody could argue that he was grounded anymore. After all, if he were grounded, he would be in his bedroom, not out here. Simple logic.

And that simple logic would be easily torn apart by his parents, so he was in no rush to find them, unlike other kids.

Fact: Sarah was going to be in so much trouble. Her father tended to get paranoid and start yelling at Mr. Stark when he couldn't find her for more than ten minutes, which made practicing her stealth skills problematic to start with. And falling through a glowy portal--well, that was just amateur, really.

She supposed she had better try to find her father before he actually punched Mr. Stark in the face again. That would probably be complicated by how she...didn't seem to be in New York.

[identity profile] weetinyarrows.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
'Don't play around portals'? Still one of the rules. But it had been an accident! She hadn't even seen the thing until it appeared right in front of her, and she'd been really sleepy, and she hadn't been able to stop, okay? She was sure Daddy would understand.

She stood there, rubbing at her eyes for a moment, before she realized she'd been here before. Daddy was here! Somewhere! And he wasn't evil! Now if she could just remember how to get to the dorm from here, and what room Daddy lived in...

Josie knew that she and Max weren't allowed to be in Q-Ball's lab anymore, not after what had happened the last time, but she had only intended on peeking in the lab to see what was going on, it hadn't been her fault that the portal had appeared right in front of the door and that her and Max had fallen through.

"Huh?" she gazed around from the ground where they had fallen, "I wonder what this place is Max,"

[identity profile] tinytroopers.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," Max stuck close to his sister, "mom and dad are going to be really mad at us,"

Okay they were more likely to be mad at Q-Ball then them specifically but still...

"Do you think we should wait here for the portal to open again?"

[identity profile] tinytroopers.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think we should explore," Josie said, taking less than three seconds to answer, she didn't like the idea of waiting around and doing nothing.

She also had a strong feeling that her dad was here as well, even though she didn't know how that was possible.

Olhado had no interest in running around picking his navel. One step through the portal brought him somewhere strange, until he realised that what he saw around himself were Earth plants. Curiosity fled him, then.

He had to go find the Speaker.

He rubbed at his metallic-looking eyes, and then broke off into a run.

[identity profile] one-with-eyes.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Unfamiliar territory wasn't a new thing. As soon as she entered, Val was checking the contents of her backpack to make sure she had her survival pack with her. The noise of the other kids was annoying, and a little strange, but she could filter it out.

She stuffed the last bit of her packing back in, then slung the bag over her shoulder. First, she'd figure out the lay of the land - then she'd track upstairs to see her parents. She didn't want to simply rely on their protection, and she wanted to know what her assets were. Everything else could come after.

[identity profile] wee-heartillies.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Sylvie had gone through the portal. Because little miss Sylvie Julianne Almasy did exactly whatever she wanted, because she was a princess, that was why.

Not by blood or anything boring like that. But she was spoiled rotten and that meant she could be a princess if she wanted to.

Tada, she was in a park! There were lots of kids here, too, but they weren't as important as she was. She was here to see her Mommy and get some waffles. It was breakfast-time and she wanted food noooooooooooooow. Please?

[identity profile] coffee-ranger.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It did not take long for Beren to realise that he was no longer in the gardens of Emyn Arnen. The buildings he could see peeking through the trees were nothing like any he had seen before, not even in the White City.

He pursed his lips in thought, remembering everything his parents had taught him to do if he did get separated from them. Still, there was no reason to not have a look around on his search... Was that coffee he smelled?

[identity profile] shes-got-fins.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, there were a lot of things Melody wasn't supposed to do, but do you think that ever stopped her? Please! No. So when she wound up somewhere completely new and different than her home, she couldn't help feel an incredible thrill of excitement. She wasn't sure how she got there, or how she'd get back, but that seemed like things to figure out later. Exploring, first and for most!

She heard a little rumble ensue from her belly, and put her hands over it with a little embarrassed laugh. Or maybe breakfast, then exploring, yeah.

[identity profile] halfbatfish.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce's curiosity got the best of him sometimes, it was true; that he could attribute entirely to his mother. But once something like this happened and things were very clearly not Gotham City like he was used to, then, well...the more practical side of his father took over. He looked around and accessed that there were plenty of other children, but he needed a trustworthy adult, which, true, was hard to find sometimes, but there had to be one around here somewhere. Or at least a slightly older kid.

[identity profile] nothingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Eloise Morgan-Pryce was a curious child. Prim and proper, occasionally sarcastic, but always curious. And the smartest girl of her age at her preparatory school, naturally. So it simply made sense for her to go through the portal. Regardless of the fact that Mother and Daddy had told her repeatedly not to go through portals ("that's where your father met that horrible girl"), and of course she knew that this was indeed a portal. Well. Mother and Daddy were at brunch, anyhow. She was sure that they wouldn't mind if she just went in for a little while. And maybe it would be somewhere interesting.

Hmm. Other children. And a park. Well. She supposed it was time for a little exploring.

[identity profile] ofthe-blood.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Annika Priest knew much better than to go through portals, of course. She wasn't about to go tumbling into other worlds without a very good reason.

It was just that sometimes, "mummy and papa are both working and there is nothing else to do" counted as a Very Good Reason indeed. She blinked about the park eagerly, taking just a moment to place where she was.

She hoped she wouldn't have so many brothers and sisters this year.

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth Emma Karla Starsmore was quite accustomed to traveling between dimensions, first with her mother or portals between Earth and Kaeleer, and then under her own power which she really wasn't supposed to do without permission from her parents but shhhhh.

She wasn't supposed to go through strange portals, either, but she thought maybe Kayla had sent it and even if not she could get back home easily anyway, right? And she could totally feel Mommy and Daddy and Auntie Karla and Uncle Warren and Auntie Emma and all Mommy and Daddy's friends here, so this was obviously a safe place!

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Elizabeth!" There would be one little winged witchling pouncing on her bested friend right now, oh yes. "You're here, too? Yay! Ooh! Do you think it's time for us to go to school?"

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooooh, maybe!" Elizabeth said, hugging her bestie. "Is this Fandom? It feels like it! But Mommy and Daddy said we had to be lots older to go to school here."

Maybe they'd opened up the Fandom High Kindergarten!

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And at that idea, a brief shard of terror filled the heart of every adult on the island.

"It sure looks like it! It has the castle and everything," Kayla said, neglecting to mention it was Nommy who'd first noticed that. "It looks just like the pictures in Mommy's photo albums."

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're right," Elizabeth said, looking up toward the direction of the school. "And I can feel that Mommy and Daddy are there, and your mommy and daddy, too. I bet they're waiting for us."

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe they'll have cookies!" Nommy said from behind them. Because he was his mother's son. "I'm hungry!"

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Boys aren't allowed at the school," Elizabeth said, sticking out her tongue at Collin.

Nevermind that their fathers had gone there. Hush.

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But wee Nommy was wise to the ways of teasing, especially when it came from his sister and Elizabeth.

"Your face isn't allowed at the school," he retorted. "Cause it'll scare the other kids."

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your face is stupid!" Elizabeth declared, crossing her arms. SO THERE.

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're just stupid!" Nommy said, sticking out his tongue. "You and Kayla both. Girls're gross and stupid!"

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nommy, you're such a brat!" Kayla said, using a wing to smack her brother in the head. "I'm gonna tell Mommy and Daddy that you misbehaved on our very firstest trip to Fandom! Then you'll be in trouble!"

[identity profile] empathic-fire.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh!" Elizabeth agreed. "You're gonna get grounded."

That was a big threat when you had wings.

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It was. Nommy looked appropriately chagrined at that threat. "I hope Henry's here, too," he grumbled, digging his toe into the dirt. "You guys are stupid. And mean."

[identity profile] lepetitemortals.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Vedder Starsmore-Lass was not entirely sure where she was, but it probably sucked. Most places were not nearly so awesome as they were built up to be. Hype and bullshit. But she was going to refrain from judging preemptively and maybe actually give this place a chance before deciding it sucked.

All the little kids weren't helping.

Never mind that Vedder herself was ten. Some people were born old souls, and some people were kind of freaks of nature that had just popped into existence, and those two tended to go together.

Hey, maybe she could mess with some people. That might be fun.

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooooh! Where are we now?" A chubby-cheeked little boy fluttered through the portal, looking about impatiently. A second later another winged little girl--this one also sporting a Green Jewel--stepped out of the portal to join him. "Nommy! You have to hold my hand!" she ordered. "You know the rules!"

Nommy pouted a moment, but held his hand out to his sister. And soon something new caught his attention and all sulkiness fell away. "Look, Kayla, look!" he said, pointing. "That's the castle! From all of Mommy and Daddy's pictures! Look! Look! Look!"

"I can see," Kayla said, ignoring the fact that she'd been watching the other children and hadn't seen the castle till Nommy pointed it out to her. Being a big sister had some prerogatives, after all. "But if this is Fandom, where's Mommy and Daddy?"

[identity profile] skycrawlers.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Jaenelle Mara Skywalker, a much more mature and grown up version of the little girl who'd shown up last year--she was seven now--walked out of the portal and looked around with a grin. Another trip to Fandom! And better yet? It seemed the Scelties got left behind, so it was just her on this side of the portal.

With all the nonchalance of an old hand at this--she'd found Mommy all by herself before, hadn't she? As a baby of five and no Jewel at all!--Jaenelle Mara began heading for the dorms. Wouldn't her parents be so happy to see her?

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
And thus did Kayla's people-watching skills pay off. "Look!" she said. "It's another witch! She has a Jewel and everything!"

"A Red Jewel," he said, giving a pointed look at his sister's Green one. "She outranks you."

"Least I had my Birthright Ceremony," Kayla muttered, tugging on his hand. "Come on. Let's go see where she's from. I bet it's Dharo, cause of her hair."

[identity profile] skycrawlers.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Jaenelle Mara was a Healer-witch-Jedi-Queen, whose Daddy was an infiltration expert and an ex-assassin, though she wasn't s'posed to know that part yet. So she was able to tell when she was being followed. Especially since neither of them were all that stealthy, not with those wings of theirs.

She was more curious than concerned though. They were just little kids, after all. "Why're you following me?" she asked, as soon as they'd drawn close enough. "Oh! You're both Blood!"

[identity profile] wingedwitchling.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Nommy nodded. "Our Mommy and Daddy useta go to this school like a million bajillion years ago," he explained. "And then I flew into the portal and Kayla followed me and now we're here and I'm gonna go to school here and meet my wife, just like Daddy did."

[identity profile] skycrawlers.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"This must be your first time through a portal," Jaenelle Mara declare, from her lofty experience of twice. "This is a million years ago. Your mom--your mother and father are probably still kids themselves and not expecting you. My parents know me, though. I've been here before."

[identity profile] venture-stock.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Rusty Venture, Junior, stepped through the portal and looked around. That was a portal to another dimension! A real, live portal to another dimension, like Grampa Rusty had gone through in Episode 18, "The Horror of a World Without America"!!!

This dimension didn't seem that bad, though. He could handle it. If anyone gave him trouble, he'd go all Venture-jitsu on their stupid butts, just like Uncle Dermott had taught him. There were a bunch of kids here, too. He didn't normally get a chance to see kids his own age, so he was looking at them curiously.

[identity profile] leons-pride.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Tempest Leonhart hadn't meant to fall through the thingy. He was asposed to tell Mommy whenever something weird happened, and he HADN'T. That was dumb. And whatever this place was, it wasn't Garden, so that meant it sucked. A lot.

He straightened up mechanically and brushed the dirt off his clothes -- Mommy didn't like it when he got dirty.

First things first -- he needed to recon the area like a big boy. He could do it!

[identity profile] born-inna-kiss.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Rook wasn't sure how she'd gotten here--wherever 'here' was--but she knew exactly what she needed to do: find Maman and make sure everything was all right. Maman was sick and needed her help! And if this was some kind of trick of Mother's, then Rook needed to be close to Maman so she could shield them both.

Thank the Darkness she could feel Maman even from the field that the...Gateway?...had tumbled her out of. Closing her eyes, Rook teleported to her Maman's side.

[identity profile] craftydefiance.livejournal.com 2011-02-13 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
When the tunnel of power had grabbed her and carried her into it, Calyn hadn't thought to scream. What she did think to do was lock her shields up around her as both mommy and daddy had taught her. When she was dropped back down, her eyes widened and she clapped with delight at where she was.

"This is Mommy's school!"

Now, to just find Mommy.
