So much for spending her first shift at Groovy Tunes looking into some new music. Ariel had almost considered just skipping the whole first day things, considering her current visitors, but it was good to have something else to distract her. Or at least try to distract her, because being confronted with two children, apparently from the future, apparently from two very different futures, was just a bit mind-boggling.

But at least Bruce and Melody seemed to be getting along together and they didn't mind coming with her to the shop for a little. Melody had almost sort of taken Bruce on as a little brother, which made sense, because he was, but, at the same time, he wasn't, and...

Ariel groaned, rubbing her head again and trying not to think about it. It was just too weird thinking that she could have a ten or seven year old daughter or son right now. She let the two of them run around, playing tag and hide-and-seek around the store as she tried not to think about it, but only wound up thinking about it more. Because, okay, Bruce kind of made sense in a way that if everything was actually perfect and life wasn't what it was sort of way, but who the heck was Prince Eric? Did she know him? Would she know him? Was he handsome? Well, duh, of course he was, and a prince, too...

Ariel's thoughts started to drift a little, but not enough to catch a snippet of conversation from Melody. "And sometimes," she said, thinking her mother wasn't paying attention and that she was speaking much quieter than she actually was, "I even pretend....I have fins!"

If she was eating anything, Ariel would have choked on it. "Melody!" she said, eyes going wide. That was another problem with a mystery future; she had no idea what this little girl knew about her or Atlantica or anything! It could be just a time bomb, waiting to go off. "Don't talk like that!"

Melody looked surly as she winced back apologetically, with a look that made Ariel wince, too, and made her think about her father, and she was pretty sure that, as the kids went to go find something else to play with, she heard Bruce whisper, "I do that, too."

Ariel buried her face in her hands. Being a parent was hard!

Please don't let your children play on the drumset. There are pots and pans in the dorms for that!

And Melody and Bruce as well. They've eventually decided to start a band together, which consists of them holding onto instruments and pretending how to play them.

Someone pointed out in an LJ comm about Melody's manbrows and I can't ever unsee it!

Hey they could have their own TV show doing that.

Robin was on the hunt for the new Taylor Swift album, and was rather pleased to see there was an added bonus in the store. One of his favorite people. Also kids.

"Hi Ariel!" he said cheerfully. "Who's your friends?"

Ariel still looked a little shellshocked. "Apparently?" she said. "My children..."

"Oh! A frog! Hi, Mr. Frog!" Melody happily waved.

"Frogs don't usually talk," Bruce observed, despite the fact that one had just in fact spoken.

"Yes, they do!" Melody informed him, rolling her eyes and shaking her head at her stupid little brother.

"It's just that a lot of us don't speak English." Robin agreed. "At least not where I'm from. Hi, I'm Robin, pleased to meet you."

A short redheaded kid wandered in and spent several minutes flipping through CDs throughout the store. He was obviously looking for something, but having a hard time finding it.

Eventually, he wandered up to Ariel. "Where are your DVDs?" Which was an odd question, because he didn't SEEM all that stupid.

Melody gave Bruce a victorious smirk at that response before turning back to the frog and offering, "I'm Melody."

"And I'm Bruce," the other one offered. "Bruce Wayne." IMPORTANT PAUSE. "Junior."

He may have enjoyed introducing himself like that far too much.

It was a good thing Ariel's kid both had dark hair, otherwise she would have spotted this kid's and gotten worried.

"Well," she said, tilting her head at him, "it's a music store. So it's mostly CDs, but we do have a few DVDs on musician biographies and biopics and things like that over there."

Rusty frowned, disappointed. "I'm looking for the rare Danish bootleg of Season Two of the Rusty Venture show?" he asked, hopefully. "You know, the one with the two 'lost' episodes? I mean, Mom got them off of BitTorrent, but it's not the same as having the DVD."

"Hi Bruce, hi Melody. Melody do you have Frogs who speak English where you're from?"

"Well, no, not frogs," Melody admitted. "But there's Sebastian! He's a crab!"

"Wait, you know Sebastian?" asked Ariel, blinking at her supposed daughter and thinking this this mystery just kept getting weirder and weirder.

"Well, duh, Mom!" Melody said, giggling and shaking her head before leaning in to whisper to Robin, "Mom's been feeling a little weird today, I think."

Ariel's head tilted as she stared at the kid a moment before slowly deciding, "Nooo, I don't think we've got anything like that here. I mean, you could try Turtle & Canary maybe? I'd help you look, but I've got to stick around here and work. I don't even think I've heard of the Rusty Venture show. Is it any good?"

"Oh I've met Sebastian." Robin said. He giggled at Melody's whisper. "I think a lot of people on the island are feeling that way this weekend."

"You've never heard of the Rusty Venture show?!?!?!?" Rusty asked, incredulously. "It's only, like the best show EVER. We're talking classic Hanna-Barbera. And it stars my Grampa Rusty!"

"You've met Sebastian?" Melody laughed, and figured she shouldn't be so surprised. "And I'm right, aren't I? That he's a total crab! I mean, in more than one way."

"I'm not really from around here," Ariel admitted with a faint grin at the boy's surprise and evident shock. "So you'll have to forgive me. The only Venture I know is Hank."

"Yeah he seemed to be kinda irritated." he agreed. "I guess he hasn't cheered up by the time you came along huh."

"Nope!" Melody cheerfully agreed. "But he wouldn't be Sebastian otherwise, you know? So, Robin, you must be a friend of my mom's, right?"

"Uh huh! She's one of my best friends!" Robin had a special place in his heart for those who didn't freak out when they saw him.

Ariel was not so out of it that she couldn't appreciate that, giving Robin a grin. "Awww, thanks, Robin!"

Then again, she always had a soft spot for talking creatures, too.

"Oh! Which reminds me, thank you for the flowers."

"Oh, you're welcome, Robin!" Ariel smiled, happy to be on a topic that didn't involve her kids with Bruce and the Mysterious Prince Eric. "Did you like them?"

"Uh huh! I wasn't expecting anything for Valentine's Day, so it was really nice to get them."

Rusty brightened up. "They used to call my dad Hank!!!"

They still did, actually.
