Chilly Boulder, Late Sunday Afternoon
If things went as they usually did these weekends, Karla knew there would be a portal opening back up in the park in a few hours. Soon the children would all be gone; back to their futures and their real parents. Perhaps Karla would see them all again. Perhaps they'd disappear forever. She didn't exactly know how it all worked. But she did know one thing.
She was going to stuff these children full of ice cream and candy before sending them home, dammit. Hope their parents were ready for wired kids on a sugar-high after their weekend of peace and quiet.
Seven kids at once. Seriously! What the Hell was that?!

Giving them ice cream might be something their real mothers didn't approve of, but it would give her a little break.
"Okay. One scoop. What kinds do you guys want?"

"Melinda, do you know..." She was only five. But some clue about how the future went that resulted in her might be possible; unlike William who was far too young. "What your mom does for a living? And when she met your dad?" Weird talking about yourself in the third person.

That was pretty much all she knew. "An' Daddy comes and visits whenever he can and we have lots of fun."
no subject
"I'm glad," she said simply, wiping at William's ice-cream-spattered face. "And I'm glad you could come visit me."

In reality, she just wanted to spend as much time with them as possible, so no matter what had happened in class, here they were.
"And no telling papa we had cookies in class and ice cream before lunch, right?" Momoko held the banana splits (with extra sprinkles and gummies) hostage until she got a nod from both Elena and Sophia.
"Good! Then let's eat!"
no subject
"Hi hi. Hi hi," he said, slurping on his own kiddie-sized cones. "You gots gummies!"

She dug her fingers into her ice cream and found a rather large gummie gremlin covered in chocolate sauce to hand him. "You have to chew it slow, 'kay? Or I get in trouble."

There were always cookies to be found somewhere, right?

"Okay! You're nice."
And you're totally too young for boys, young lady!no subject
"Can I join you?"
[As I said in e-mail about to go to bed, so, SP. Feel free to have the kids know Robin if you like.]

"Hey! You almost messed it up, what?" Sophia looked up from her ice cream sculpture.
"Look, look! It's Mister Frog! From the pictures! He's real!"
There were stares, and Momoko facepalmed. "Hi Robin, sure! Sorry, but I guess my girls from the future haven't met you in person. This is Elena and Sophia."

Sophia couldn't stop staring, though, and a sighing Momoko had to reach over and tap the table in front of the poor girl. "Sophia, stop staring; it's rude. Say hi to my friend, Mister Robin."
"... Hi."

"My fort," she said, quietly.
Momoko looked at her a bit oddly. "I totally have no idea why she's acting so strange, Robin, sorry! But they're from a possibly different future, remember."
no subject
"Do you girls like music?" he asked Elena and Sophia.
no subject
Sophia... nodded, but her eyes widened at the possibilities that question offerred.

"Moving forward, using all my breath. Being friends with you was never second best..." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCFN8_Xgh8E)

Elena joined in. "That was pretty!"
Momoko smiled in agreement, "Totally awesome, Robin!" Although she was fairly sure she had heard the song before with different lyrics.

Elena's face fell. "Not that one! No no no!"

She may not have the melody quite right, and may have
internalizedchanged a few words, but it was kind of obvious she knew the song. And Elena's tortured groans and eye-rolls probably told how often it was heard.no subject
The new words were amusing as well.
When Sophia finished, Robin applauded. "Yaaay!"
Somehow this got posted in the wrong place. But now is fixinated.no subject
Enough of those deep thoughts, it was time for ice cream!
"I'd like a triple scoop chocolate sunday please." One overly sugared frog, coming up.

Unsurprisingly, "I do!" was echoed in unison, with childish hands raised in the air.
