Cafe Fina, Wednesday night

When Ramona asked for a 'nice date,' Bruce figured Cafe Fina was probably the best bet. He'd never actually eaten here, no, but he understood it as the fancy place in town.

He somehow hadn't heard about the dinnerware.

"I'll admit, I didn't mean this to be dinner and a show," he said after they'd been seated and he saw a plate pirouette.

"Just when I think I've been warned against everything," Ramona said, wide-eyed, "the dishes become animated. Do you think they're sentient?"

"I can't tell yet," Bruce said. "I think the safe position is assuming they are and hoping they don't trip and break."

"I'm going to feel weird eating off someone's face," Ramona pointed out thoughtfully. "So I'm going to pointedly not think about that part."

"I'm hoping the plates we use for eating don't move. Then I'll assume they're not sentient," Bruce said. Because then he'd have to consider their screams as they went through the scalding dishwash cycle and, no, that was way too cruel.

"I bet you didn't expect your 'nice date' would start out with something like this," Bruce said, giving a small smirk.

"Um, no, but my nice-dating experience is admittedly limited," Ramona said, arching a brow and smiling. "So I mean, for all I know, this is normal for a Bruce Wayne date."

"Only about half the time. I guess I was due," Bruce said. "At least they're good dancers."

"Especially for plates," Ramona added. "I mean, if we fall down while dancing, it's embarrassing and maybe we get a bruise. It's a lot more drastic for them."

"You don't fall down while dancing a lot, do you?" Bruce asked, spotting a segue away from potential plate horror.

"Pretty much never," Ramona assured him. "But I have openly made fun of people who fell down dancing. Almost the same."

"You didn't make them cry, did you?" Bruce asked.

"Not that I've ever seen," Ramona said, a little pensive. "I mean, it's not the most sophistcated humor, but I think you're allowed to laugh when someone falls down. Especially while dancing."

"I can't really argue with that. And if you ever see me fall while dancing, fire away," Bruce said. "Especially since it would be pretty rare."

"I feel like you're daring fate now," she said, shaking her head. "Be careful how you dance from here on out."

"I only dare fate because I enjoy it. Plus, it feels that much better when I beat it," Bruce said. Why yes, Bruce was pretty confident.

"That's totally what someone who's gonna get their ass kicked by fate pretty soon would say," Ramona pointed out. "Fate loves irony."

"We'll see about that," Bruce said. "But I think I can go a while without suffering any kind of embarrassing fall. And I realize I'm probably making it worse by saying that."

"It's like you want to see just how mad you can make fate," Ramona said admiringly. "I feel like I shouldn't hang out near you for fear of lightning strikes or something."

"Hopefully you're up to living dangerously for a night," Bruce said.

"I can probably take the risk. But only because you've already given me permission to laugh at your misery," Ramona decided.

"You're good. You've worked it out so that you either get a good time or a good laugh, possibly both," Bruce noted.

"I'm pretty good at manipulating circumstances to benefit myself," Ramona nodded. "I mean, preferably, you won't suffer any humiliation at the hands of fate like, any time soon, but if you do, I get an extra dose of entertainment in my evening. It's win-win."

"Remind me to stay on your good side," Bruce quipped.

"You're doing a good job so far," she assured him. "Though you know, even on my good side, there's always the looming threat of things like hair dye and capes. Poor Tony."

"I think you might find it harder to talk me into something like that," Bruce said. "I mean, sure, you got this date, but that doesn't have a big drawback for me."

"I don't see how wearing a cape around could, either," Ramona pointed out. "And I maintain you could rock some blue in your hair."
