Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

The first three days of her moontime had passed uneventfully (mostly because Karla had taken to her bed on Friday and spent the weekend cuddling with a heating pad and sending Mini-Morton on food runs whenever she got hungry), but she still wasn't feeling back up to one hundred percent.

Which was why today, rather than being productive, Karla had strapped a hand broom to the front of mini-Morton and let him zoom around the store. He was having fun and the store was getting cleaned. Go her.

"No, they just get that way over time if you don't wipe their memories," Ben said a little fondly, thinking of Artoo. "I brought you a present."

He held out the stuffed duck. "Happy Monday."

That mollified Karla some--not the present (though it helped), but the fact that Mini-Morton's burgeoning personality was due to him becoming more his own person. "No memory-wipes," she said, probably unnecessarily. "I like him sassy."

Even when he was driving her nuts. Just like the rest of her males.

She looked at the duck in Ben's hands, puzzling over it for a moment before breaking into a laugh. "Come to weigh me, have you?" she asked, reaching out for it.

"I'll wait until you're off work," he said magnanimously, "and then dunk you in the pond."

"You and what army?" Karla sniffed, blithely ignoring reality. In a knock-down, drag-out fight, Ben would have the upper hand. Easily. "Besides, my friends the flamingos would protect me."

She'd gone from ignoring reality to straight-up lying.

"I already talked with them and they've agreed to help me. I didn't bring you the stupid nose! You're not going to get a better deal than that," Ben replied sweetly.

"And the hat?" Karla asked suspiciously. "And if you say anything about me having warts...!"

"I don't want to see if Mini-Morton can hit me with his little broom, thank you," Ben said, laughing. "I also brought you a sandwich. Eat it before it gets wet in the pond."

"Don't think for a second that I would not bring you in with me," Karla informed him, even as she greedily reached for the sandwich he'd brought. Her own lunch had been eaten hours ago. "You will end this trip as wet I do, just saying."

"Well, I suppose some people might consider me a witch, so that's fair," Ben decided, laughing.

"Have you turned anyone into a newt?" Karla had to ask.

"He was a dragon and he got better?" Ben tried, finding himself hilarious.

"Big words for the male who turns into a little kitten," Karla teased. Of the three of them, his animal form was the least impressive. Sorry, Ben.

"Yeah, but I got the most cuddling," Ben decided.

"Did not," Karla declared. "I was fuzzy and adorable and in need of scritches and pettings and attention."

"And you were prepared to eat people who didn't give them to you," Ben teased. "I could fit on a pillow."

"And yet you still managed to consume more ice cream than shook be physically possible for a kitten your size," Karla said, shaking her head sadly.

"Most of it even got into my stomach," Ben added proudly.

"Liar. I've seen you as a kitten," Karla returned. "You end up looking like some kind of...ice cream golem or something."

"I was still cuter than you," Ben decided. "We can ask Tahiri."

Because there was an unbiased source on relative cuteness.

"Sure--as long as we then get to ask Warren, too," Karla decided. "You know, just to make it fair and all."

Though Tahiri might side with Karla, just to be a brat to Ben. It was one of the things Karla liked about her.

"And Ender could serve as a tie-breaker," Ben decided. Because sometimes Ben was a moron.

That was what the look Karla shot him was suggesting, it was true. "I'm sure Ender would see the entire enterprise as being silly and prefer not to vote," she said, trying for diplomacy.

"Well, he had an entire conversation with me about fart-based propulsion, so I don't think he has much room to talk about silly," Ben said, cheerfully tossing his best friend under the bus.

"...I will never understand males. Never ever ever," Karla said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Why--nope. Never mind. Not even going to ask."

He grinned at her. "What?"

"I was going to ask how you guys got on that topic in the first place," Karla said primly. "But I'm not sure I want to know."

"We were trying to track down the most useless superpower," Ben told her.

"Let me guess," Karla teased. "You two decided that one was actually kind of astral."

"Yeah," Ben admitted with a laugh.

Boys.

"I'm going to have to announce a mandatory cradle day," Karla decided. "It seems to help curb some of the more idiot tendencies you boyos like to develop sometimes when I'm not paying attention."

Mostly because playing cradle made their brains melt and they weren't able to do much more than cry and whimper for awhile after playing.

"We haven't been that bad," Ben ~~whined~~ said.

"It'll keep you from getting any worse," Karla decided.
