The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Evening

It was Emma's first night at work, and so she was posted at the coat check; taking covers, checking IDs and being a lovely hostess. Tiny was keeping an eye on her from the bar, in case anyone gave her a problem, but Emma didn't anticipate anything truly vexing on a Tuesday night.

The music was pumping and the lights were low. The Devil's Nest was open.

"I can't believe you're gainfully employed, Emma," Sookie noted as she wandered in.

"If I must be, it might as well be somewhere wonderfully scandalous," Emma replied cheerfully, waving her marker and gesturing for Sookie to give over her hand. "My family would pitch a fit."

"I get no perks, huh?" Sookie asked, amused as she held out her hand. "Used to be that if you'd saved the owner's life...or afterlife, or whatever, there were certain advantages afforded to a girl. Oh, how things have gone downhill."

"If he wants to let you drink, that's not my problem. I just give you temporary artwork," Emma laughed, making a very pretty X with flowers around it. "And if you do get to order, share with your poor, lonely Emma at the door, darling."

"And get caught?" Sookie teased, tsking. "I feel like if I ask for an adult beverage, Eric will make me drink Tru Blood."

Tonight's selection was a very rocking mix of the 80s, and if you thought you heard Emma humming along, you were clearly mistaken.

Beyond the velvet rope, you may or may not find Eric.

Eric was there, as it happened, checking discretely to make sure no one tried to give Emma any trouble.

He wished he still ate popcorn because he knew who he was betting on in that sort of confrontation.

"Velvet rope?" Sookie asked, from just beyond it. "Really, Eric? Really?"

"There are certain stereotypes to maintain," Eric said, waving her back. "Hello."

"And yet underage drunk girls are a no-go," Sookie tsked.

"Oh, I meant stereotypes that make me look good," Eric replied, "and not taken away in the non-sexy types of handcuffs."

"I'm not even a big drinker, and I'm still sort of sad," Sookie admitted. "Impressed that you've employed what I view as the least employable of my friends, though."

"Emma?" Eric smiled. "This sort of place was made for her. She can dress up, take people's money and give them attitude if they try to push her."

"And she's not afraid of you," Sookie added with a smile.

"Which is a strange thing for me," Eric admitted. "Most humans tend toward the either the groveling and clinging or the screaming and staking."

"I pick my friends better than that," Sookie replied.

"I've noticed," Eric said, which was a compliment if you look at it sideways.

"Most people here aren't going to do that, by the way," she added. "We've all seen vampires before."

"But none as handsome as I am, I'm sure," Eric decided.
