The Causeway, Late Afternoon Saturday

Elphaba was more than happy to head out to the causeway when she got the message she actually had a visitor for the weekend. Sure, she'd have to help her around, but the joy in her hear that her sister was here. She hadn't seen her in so long.

So, Elphaba hurried out to meet up with her 'tragically beautiful' sibling, hoping that she would be in equally high spirits.

Nessarose was terribly excited to be visiting her big sister. She was equally terribly frightened of being in a strange place surrounded by strange people. Especially considering the things Elphie had written about this place.

The carriage came to a stop and the coachman first lifted her chair and then Nessa herself down. She immediately spotted her sister (which, frankly, wasn't difficult given the green skin) and grinned.

"Elphaba!"

"Oh, Nessa, it is so good to see you," Elphaba said, rushing over. "I do hope the trip wasn't too upsetting. I'm so glad father allowed you to come."

"It was rather long and unusual," Nessa admitted. "But worth it to see you. I wasn't sure if father would allow it."

Actually, Nessa was quite certain he wouldn't have allowed it if she had shared Elphaba's letters with him.

There were reasons Elphaba wrote to Nessarose with much more frequency than her father. That was one of them. "I would have hoped he'd be less... strict with you, once I was no longer being such a burden to him," she said, quite frankly. "Thank you, sir, I can take her from here," she told the coachman.

Nessa gave her sister a rueful smile. "He is still burdened with me."

"Oh, hush," Elphaba said. "You are his pride and joy, and you know that as well as I do. After all, he didn't send you to a school in another world so you couldn't attend all the important governor's functions."

"Oh, yes, those functions are so terribly exciting," Nessa said. "Everyone staring at the crippled girl in the wheelchair."

"Well, no one will stare at you here," Elphaba said. "That's one of the benefits of coming here. I'd try to convince father to let you come here for real, but even I know that would be an impossibility."

"Elphie" Nessa began hesitantly. "Is this place truly as... peculiar as you've written?"

"Peculiar isn't the half of it," Elphaba said. "But yes, every word I've written you is true. Even the part where I was a boy for two days."

"How?"

It hardly seemed possible for such strangeness to be true.

"The island is magical, as far as anyone can explain," Elphaba said. "There are witches and wizards here with powers that might even be beyond the great Wizard himself."

"Elphie! You shouldn't say such things," Nessa scolded.

"You've not seen what I've seen," Elphaba said, earnestly. "But perhaps you'll see some of it. I only hope it's only the good things."

Nessa frowned. "Maybe this visit wasn't such a good idea."

"Don't worry," Elphaba reassured her sister. "You'll be safe. No harm has befallen me the entire time I've been here. And I'm not about to let anything happen to you."
