Devil's Nest, Tuesday Evening.

The music tonight seemed to have a fake-Russian-lesbians theme, but Emma had on a bright smile as she unlocked the doors of Devil's Nest. Today had been lovely, especially in contrast to her weekend, and it was going to take more than best of Russian Pop to sour her mood.

Fresh from the portal, Jack almost laughed when he got to the door and saw Emma sitting there. Some of it was happiness to see her; some of it was that he hadn't been sure he really believed her about the job.

"Am I on the guest list for tonight?"

Emma blinked to make sure she was seeing who she thought she was seeing, and then broke into a slow smirk as she reached for her clipboard.

"Let me see..." she replied lazily. "Ah yes. Priest, Jack, with a note to send you home before curfew, because there's homework you're supposed to be doing instead of pestering pretty hostesses."

"I'm free until Thursday," Jack said smugly. "...Friday, really, since no one will bother to take attendance in my Friday morning class. I'm afraid I am entirely without a curfew."

Neither one of them was really the huggy type, but he reached for one anyhow. "Are you disappointed to be stuck with me?"

"Of course not," she answered, giving him a quick hug back. "But I didn't think you'd actually come all the way out here, just to see me at work."

She gestured for him to come around the counter and sit with her. "So, how's London? Got any interesting cases that you're picking at in your spare time?"

"You aren't the only person on the island, you know," Jack said loftily. He hung his jacket neatly before taking the offered seat. "Besides, it's not any new job. I had a professional interest."

... a professional interest, abetted by the vague hope he might see Emma naked at some point over the week, yes. But he'd try not to be greedy.

"Not much interesting, no," he added. "There was a prostitute killed a few weeks ago, but Sebastien seems to have hit a blind alley on that one. How are things here?"

Having someone checking ID was quite a surprise considering the rest of the island. Cindy wasn't sure if she'd be carded but made sure she had her license with her anyway.

It was as fake as all the other forms of ID she had, but it matched the information provided to the school.

"Thank you, Miss Perrault," Emma said, handing the ID back to her former teacher. "Welcome to the Devil's Nest, and enjoy your evening."

"You're welcome, Emma," Cindy said with a grin. "Can we count this as good towards all future visits to the club while you're working?"

"One of the lovely benefits of being a telepath is a near photographic memory," Emma replied, smiling slightly. "Unless the island is having a round of de-aging or other madness, I won't need to see your ID again."

"Excellent," Cindy said, tucking her ID away in her purse. "Though if the island's going mad again, I'll hopefully be safely in my room, not visiting the bar."

She sighed, turning it into a rueful chuckle. "On the other hand, with this island, who knows?"

After getting into the club, Cindy wandered to the bar and asked for a wine spritzer. The music was interesting enough at least.

Eric generally left the students to their own devices, but she looked closer to his own age (well, his outer age. Most people didn't look this good at a thousand) and so he came out of the VIP section to investigate.

"Hello."

Well, when you were Eric's age, there were no original pick-up lines.

"Hello," Cindy said back, taking another sip of her spritzer. She'd been watching him ever since he'd started to make his way over to her. Most people would have assumed that she was checking him out--and she had been. Though her interest in his physique was a tailored more towards getting a bead on how hard he'd be to take down if needed.

Though he was handsome. She wasn't blind, god.

"Phone got boring?" she asked.

Okay, so maybe she'd noticed him before he'd started walking over. Details.

Eric was in his usual booth, texting away to Pam about the doppelganger of her he'd met over the weekend.

Pam was not buying a word of it.

"Mr. Northman?" Jack stayed respectfully in front of the velvet rope -- no point starting by breaking protocol -- but he was clearly hoping to get Eric's attention. "I'm Jack, a friend of Emma's. I was curious to meet her employer, if you have a moment."

Eric glanced up lazily from his phone. "I have one," he said, waving his hand to invite Jack behind the rope.

He was certain that if he were actually allowed to drink in this club, it would taste better now.

"I was just curious what brought you to Fandom to open the club? I graduated last year, and I wish there had been choices besides Caritas then."

"I visited a friend here during the Parents Weekend in the fall and was intrigued," Eric replied, "and I'm not often intrigued. It never hurts to diversify your portfolio, either. I have another club in Louisiana."
