The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Jessica was perched on a stool near the door, ready to check IDs. That is, when she wasn't looking down at the book in her hands, alternately snickering and rolling her eyes and reading with interest. If you lose a limb, it is very important to remain calm. Do not panic! Yes, it hurts, and yes, the prospect of going through eternity without a limb is terrifying, but nothing is worse than a one-armed vampire trying to exact revenge for the injury. The trick is to collect the severed limb before your wounded stump heals over. Retreat to safety and hold it in place....

The way Jaina figured, there were two ways to handle coming back from a mission that didn't go exactly as planned. You could stay in and dwell on how it could have gone better, or you could repress by going out and seeing people. Guess which one she picked.

"Well, you survived your first week," Jaina said, presenting her ID like a good girl.

Jessica waved a hand at her. "You don't have to show that again," she said. "Not unless there's somebody on the island who looks exactly like you but isn't twenty one yet."

Jaina had to pause and think. "She's not on the island anymore and hasn't been for a while, so I think I'm safe," she said, tucking the ID away again. Only in Fandom would she be able to say that.

...Well okay she'd be able to say that back home hypothetically, thanks to clones and identical cousins and all, but that was not the point.

"Really?" Jessica said. "I was just jokin'. You got somebody who looks just like you?"

Jaina nodded. "She graduated a year ahead of me. There were some differences, but it still confused just enough people to make my life more interesting," she frowned. "Fandom's weird. I will never be able to say that enough."

"There ain't never been somebody who looks like me, has there?" Jessica had to know. That would just be too weird.

"Not that I remember," Jaina said, trying to think of whether there'd been anyone she'd maybe been on the island with but wasn't friends with who might have looked like her. "I didn't recognize you when I first met you, so I think you're one of a kind here. That will probably last."

"That'd be weird," Jessica decided. "But it might be kinda fun, too, on account I could blame her for anything bad I did." She flashed Jaina a grin.

"Oh, I'm sure she'd love that," she said with a little laugh. "Of course she could try to blame things on you too..."

"I'd just glamour people to believe me then," Jessica said. Which meant she really didn't need a twin to blame things on, but shhhh.

Jaina seemed to be picking up all sorts of new vocabulary lately. "Glamour them?"

"Yeah, it's one of the things we vampires can do," Jessica freely babbled. "I can make you think or do things if I want to."

Go ahead, Jessica, try it on the Jedi.

She raised an eyebrow, knowing that probably wasn't true with her. She should probably not be so confident considering how many times she got mindwhammied by Jedi. ...Not that she remembered those times. Ahem. "You think so?"

Jessica nodded. "I'm really good at it," she said. "I can even do two people at once."

Totally not dirty.

It sounded dirty.

"Ever get caught?" she wondered.

"'Course not," Jessica bragged. "I'm evil better than my maker at it."

"Ever meet someone it couldn't work on? Like they have a natural guard against it?" Yes, she was totally curious if it would work on her. She was nice and comfortable around Eric and Jessica but still, that was something that'd be nice to know.

Jessica shook her head. "Well, I ain't never tried to glamour another vampire, I don't know if that would work," she said. "But I'm really good at doin' it to humans."

Mod the bartender and chat with other patrons.

Jaina made her way to the bar, ordering herself one drink and deciding to stick to that. And if she was trying not to listen to the music, well, she'd heard worse? ~~Even if it got her banished to the left.~~
