The Perk, Sunday evening

After catching a portal to Fandom, Zayne sent out a quick message out to some friends, letting them know that he was back in town for a couple days.

It was strange being here now. But that wasn't Fandom's fault. It was him and his life that had changed completely since the last time he'd been here and even more since he graduated nearly a year ago. Back then, he was a guy who was just learning and wanted to be a Jedi more than anything. Now he had earned the right to be a Jedi Knight, but turned it down because of everything he'd learned.

But while he had changed, coffee at the Perk hadn't. Well, overall. It probably wasn't the same coffee from a year ago. He was willing to give the benefit of the doubt on that. And so he bought a coffee (giving it only a quick inconspicuous sniff to make sure it didn't smell like what he assumed year old coffee would smell like), took a seat, and let himself enjoy the town that he liked so much before his whole galaxy went insane and made him fix it.

[OOC: If you suspect you might have gotten a message from Zayne, feel free to assume that you did. But he's here to talk to people even if they didn't get a message, so don't let that stop you. Alternately, the Perk is open for all of your coffee needs!]

It was a pleasant surprise to get the message from Zayne, and so Jaina headed out as soon as she was able to find him. "Welcome back," she said, greeting him with a smile.

"Thanks, Jaina," Zayne said. "It's a much happier visit than last time." As if that wasn't obvious by the relative lack of holsters and pouches and blasters. "How've you been? Still teaching?"{

"Yeah. For the next few weeks, anyway," she replied, taking a seat. "Important things first. Why's it happier?"

She had answers she could hope for, but she wasn't going to assume.

"Nobody's trying to kill or arrest me," Zayne said. "...That I know of. I mean, I can't think of why anyone would be trying to do either one now."

"You got your name cleared?" Jaina asked, smiling.

"And all it took was military action on Coruscant, stealing a bunch of Sith artifacts as evidence, and one of my Masters turning on the rest of them," Zayne said. "It was so easy, I don't know why I didn't do it earlier." Oh, humor.

"No idea how that wasn't the first thing that came to mind," she said dryly. "So... what happened to the Masters?"

It was probably bad of her to hope they all suffered a lot. Especially Lucien.

"They're all dead," Zayne said, his smile fading. "But Xamar and Lucien gave their lives to help save the galaxy from the guy really running their big Covenant thing, so they at least started to make up for everything."

Jaina didn't really think they could ever make up for murdering their own padawans and framing the one who got away, so she was perfectly happy to hear they were dead. She was kind of a bad Jedi in that respect. "But it's over," she said, smart enough not to say anything she was thinking. "And you're free to... What are you doing now?"

"Well, after finding out the truth about everything, the Jedi offered to make me a Knight," Zayne said. "But I said no. I already have a job with my friends anyway."

The Jedi better have offered that. "What's the job?"

"Well, crime," Zayne said. "That's the kind of thing that happens when your best friend is a criminal. But I'm making sure that we only steal from people who deserve it, and that the money goes to good causes."

"At least it's not bounty hunting. You said no to the Jedi for a life of crime, and you found a way to make it moral?" she asked with a little smirk. She couldn't really judge, all things considered. "That's actually kind of great."

"Hello, Zayne," Anakin said, striding through the door and giving the young man a small smile. "How long has it been for you?"

He'd learned the hard way to check up front, though he didn't look fifteen or twenty years older.

"It's been a little less than a year since I graduated," Zayne said, giving a smile. "So I think time works the same here and there."

"I had to ask," Anakin said. "Jaina has a habit of going home for a week and returning five years later."

"I try to keep things a little more simple than that," Zayne said. He didn't have the continuity for that kind of time jumping anyway. "How's everything been here?"

"Relatively quiet," Anakin said. "We had the invasion of impossible children around Valentine's Day this year. And you?"

"Kind of kicked a war off. Personally invaded Coruscant. Cleared my name. Stopped a would-be Sith Lord," Zayne said. "So, busy, I guess."

"So....not that quiet," Anakin said slowly. "Start with the Sith Lord."

"Okay, my Masters were part of this group called the Covenant," Zayne said. "You wouldn't have heard of them. Everyone agreed to cover it up. My old Master Lucien's mother set the whole thing up, but she had an aide, Haazen, who was actually running everything. The Covenant kept watching out for any sign of the Sith, so every time they found a Sith relic, they would confiscate it. And then he took a bunch of them and tried to take over the Jedi Order from within. I guess I was the excuse he was waiting for to make his move. But we were able to stop him before he could do everything he wanted to."

Anakin's jaw dropped. "Seriously?"

"Lucien's actually the one who finished it. Haazen had him just about ready to become his Sith apprentice, but I was able to help him see that it wasn't what he wanted or what his parents would have wanted for him," Zayne said. "He actually sacrificed himself to make sure Haazen died. It was a big moment for a lot of people."

Anakin blinked. "And what happened to Lucien's mother?"

"She died. From everything I've heard, she wasn't evil. Haazen tainted what she started," Zayne said. "And then she had a stroke, so he put her into some kind of Sith torture chamber that would keep her from dying. My friend Gryph opened it up so she could help us, and... she didn't have much time left."
