Fast Eddie's: Friday, All Day

If it wasn't already clear that something odd was happening on the island, anyone passing the pool hall slash bowling alley would have to have a Somebody Else's Problem field the size of Cleveland to miss it.

Outside, a floating wall of brick-blocks had appeared beside the main entrance, and the sidewalk around and beneath it swarmed with little brown mushroomy things and what looked like dog-sized turtles. Some of the creatures slowly plodded back and forth, some took short fluttery jumps into the air with the aid of stubby white wings, and a couple of the mushrooms were bouncing around the doorway in what looked for all the world like a giant green boot with a wind-up key stuck in the side of it.

The commotion wasn't just on the street, though. Within, the familiar sounds of pins being knocked over were accompanied by a whizzing, sliding noise, the occasional scream of pain, and a raucous, incoherent cheering that was much more frequent, every time someone got a strike.

It was Gremlin League Day, and Bob's team, the Bitemehards, had just discovered Bowling With Koopas.

Street Monsters

If you feel like loitering outside the pool hall today, you may have to pay the price of a little stompy, shooty action for it.

It was during his morning run that Bruce realized that the streets were a little crowded with strange monsters. And so he took some time, made sure his utility belt was stocked up with weapons, and made his way to the less crowded rooftops of town to investigate from a little bit of a distance.

He stopped when he saw the collection of creatures in front of Fast Eddie's. Realizing that one in a giant boot could be a real danger, Bruce took out a bola, got it spinning, and threw it with precision at the Goomba in the boot. The second his projectile hit, though, the Goomba disappeared.

And now Bruce was curious. He dropped a few smoke bombs from above to give him some cover, then he leaped from the roof and into the boot. By the time the smoke cleared, Bruce had figured out how to steer. Bad news for some turtles.

It's kind of a Gremlin-infested riot zone, but honestly they're having plenty of fun jumping on the turtle shells and sending them whackety-whack down the bowling lanes, and might not even try to bite unless you provoke them.

Or you steal Steve's beer. Then all bets are off.

Stomp some Koopas, kick some shells, hell, the Bitemehards might even take you up on a moddable friendly 3-game challenge, winner buys the pizza.
