The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday [4/8]

With those weird mushroom-creatures coming out of the green pipes that sprouted overnight in front of the hotel, Mary had her hands full. So when Danny kept calling her to talk about this thing with Cooper, she didn't have the time to deal with his insecurities.

"Look, Danny, I really need to go. Gunther disappeared into a pipe and I have turtles coming in," said Mary, hanging up the call before Danny could ask.

It was going to be another one of those times that Las Vegas seemed boring in comparison to Fandom.

She's grabbing fruit from the strategically-placed fruit bowl and throwing them at the Goombas and Koopas. So far, it seems to be working.

"It had to be." 'Dite sent a blast at a Goomba, then made her way to Mary at the desk. "I go away for a long while, come back, everything's been mostly quiet. And then there's an invasion. Hi, Mary." Another blast and a Koopa went flying. "What is up with these things?"

"I have no idea, and I was still getting over last weekend," said Mary, her gaze focused on a Koopa. She grabbed an orange, aimed carefully, and hit a Koopa, sending its shell spinning. "But there's always something strange going on around her, like I was just telling my friend on the phone."

"Strange, yes, but the invasions are the worst. Good shot, there." She zapped a bunch more fruit into Mary's bowl to make sure she had plenty of ammo. "By the way, I wanted to let you know, I'm going to be leaving the island. Not forever, but -- probably for quite a while. I wanted to keep the suite, though." A blast, and another Goomba bit the dust. "And I'm paid through May, so it shouldn't be a problem. Thought I'd let you know, though, so you could take it off the cleaning list -- doesn't really have to be cleaned if I'm not there."

To change things up, she borrowed an apple from Mary's bowl and nailed a turtle in the head.

"Oooh, thanks," said Mary, appreciating the extra fruit. The reason she hadn't switched to her handgun yet was because she wanted to conserve the few bullets she had. "I'll be happy to hold the suite for you if it means that you'll be coming back to visit. Besides, I know you've probably customized it just the way you like, right?" she added with a smirk.

"Weeeeellll," 'Dite said shyly. Then the act dropped. "Yeah, you're right, I did. And I'm definitely coming back to visit; gotta make sure the store is running right."

She pegged another Koopa with a blast of energy and glared at the strange creature. "You know, it's not that I'm not grateful for the variety? But what the heck are these things in the first place?"

"I have no idea," said Mary, chucking a banana at another Goomba. "I've only gone far enough outside to figure out that they're coming out of the pipes that appeared overnight. Where the pipes come from and where they lead is beyond me. Gunther went to take a closer look and hasn't come back."

"Poor Gunther." Surprisingly, 'Dite managed to actually sound sad about it. "Well, if you hear anything else about these things, let me know? I'll be around till Monday. If you run out of fruit, just say the word!"

She winked and headed out the door, blasting another Goomba as she left.

"I'll let you know when I get some news on these things. And thanks for the help!" Mary called after her.

With the last Goomba taken care of, Mary was able to relax for a moment. Then her cell phone started to ring (it was Danny again!) and another group of Koopas came out of nowhere. Mary sighed and went back to tossing fruit while trying to fight the urge to throw her phone.

You may want to take your food to go or order room service today.

The monsters won't be getting far into the lobby if Mary can help it, and guests are welcome to help guard the hotel!
