Treasure Hunt! Saturday Afternoon, Outside the Dorms Then All Across The Island

Edmund didn't really want to share any of the gold that he'd heard about on the radio broadcast, but on the other hand, he'd also heard about creatures. Creatures that bit and fired things and transported people to student housing entirely against their will.

So, perhaps safety in numbers after all.

Because it was more politically astute than just calling them cannon fodder right out in the open.

Thus here he was outside the dorms with a sign -- by which he meant here Baldrick was carrying the sign, because please -- reading:

Fandom Island Treasure Hunt
Gold coins. You know you want them.
We're going looking. Come with us.
First come, first served.
Bring weapons if you have them.
Those with weapons, protect those without.

Blackadder's weapon was a dogsbody who belched fireballs. He didn't intend to protect anybody but himself with it, but other people didn't have to know that.

[Open! Feel free to collect coins unmolested, or mod/NPC-request yourself some enemy attacks, as you will. Just make sure anybody sharing a thread with you is on the same page when it comes to that!]

How did Lucas hear about this all the way back at his place? Who cares, he was here to earn some treasure.

"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!" Jack cried gleefully, flailing up to the group. He had his sword and two giant pillowcases.

And a red welt on his forehead. Sometimes the bricks had just turned out to be bricks.

George was ... not all that impressed with the Turnip Surprise. She was, however, looking forward to money. She needed money. Being a counter idiot did not pay the big bucks.

All Over Town: Coin Boxes

[identity profile] fh-goombaland.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They do seem to be floating anywhere and everywhere. Hitting one's head against the bottom produces a single paltry coin. Then again.... MONEY!

All Over Town: Warp Pipes!

[identity profile] fh-goombaland.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of those green pipes that seem to have sprouted everywhere have a single coin floating above the opening. Think that might be a clue?

Image Image Image Image

Entering the tube will lead to one of four secret rooms -- two of them immediately set up to sliiiide you right down to the floor again, unless you have flying powers, or jump to the side really fast to get to the flat surface beneath that coin box.

Once you do, though, turn out your pockets or lift up your goodie bags, because hitting that coinbox from below will produce a 30-second shower of coins. Catch as many as you can, because once it stops, any that hit the ground will disappear, and once you head out of the pipe and back to the surface, you won't get to visit the same room again. (You can, however, keep re-entering the same damned pipe every time you fail to headbutt the coinbox.)

George was pretty sure that this was going to end badly, but she picked one of the pipes, anyway, and jumped in.

The pipe dumped her onto a slide that was filled with coins. Seriously? She was grabbing all of the ones that she slid through. Right up until she slammed into a wall.

Okay, now she was in a fucking pit that had multi-colored tile work with questions marks on it. Great.

The steep incline up ahead took some running to get up, but there were a few more coins, so she was going to call that worth it.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Jack cried, raccoon ears wiggling with excitement as he went down the tube.

"I CAN FLY!!!" he added as his tail whipped him into the air.

"I'M RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICH!" he concluded as the shower of coins spilled into his pillow case.

This was the best weekend of his life.

The Sky Above The Preserve: Coin Heaven!

[identity profile] fh-goombaland.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Those clouds gathered above the preserve look awfully thick today, and is that gold sparkling atop them? Why yes, yes it is.

There also seems to be a vine growing out of one of those ubiquitous green pipes that leads all the way up there, like you could climb right up and steal a singing harp from the giant whoops wrong vine get to those coins, if you don't have flying powers to get up there under your own steam.

Image

The clouds are solid, and the coins are scattered everywhere. Go nuts!

Careful, though; there might be flying Koopas to avoid, and those weird turtles with glasses that like to ride around on mini-clouds and throw spiky balls at you. Also, don't fall off the edge or between two clouds; unless you can fly, the landing will be fairly soft, but it'll be back in the dorms, just like you got zapped by a monster.

Just Off The Docks

[identity profile] fh-goombaland.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a new ship floating out in the harbor. Wonder what that's all about. It's rather.....shiny.

Swimming, flying, or stealing a boat and rowing out to it will reveal a surface of wooden beams positively littered with gold coins, and no Captain about at all. (Aside from any who might be out treasure hunting.)

Image

At the very end of the stern is a gray pipe; those brave enough to slide down will find a treasure box containing a random power-up:

red mushroom (EAT VEGGIES FUNGUS, GET BIG)
leaf (raccoon ears and tail)
fireflower (fireballs)
hammer (steel helmet and the ability to throw endless hammers!)

Once the box is opened, you'll find yourself dumped out into the water beside the ship. Whoops. Swim fast! There might be Bloobers in the water.

[One power-up per character; the pipe won't let you back down a second time. Player choice as to what you get, though if you want to randomize it (http://random.org), go for it!]

Lucas thought the ship sounded like a good idea. He stopped back at his place and grabbed a wakeboard, using it to swim out to the ship with a big sack for the money. Once he got there, yep, he went to town collecting every coin he could find.

Eventually, he found the pipe and went down it. Once he did, he found a flower. When he touched it, his leather jacket turned white and he could suddenly spit fireballs from his mouth like some kind of... human-shaped producer of fire of some sort. One with a stormy disposition, at that.

Weird. And then he was suddenly back in the water, trying to make his way back to the wakeboard so he could get back to shore.

Jack totally stole stole a boat tied up on the dock and rowed his way out to the ship he didn't recognize, then burst out laughing when he saw what was on the ship.

"When I get the Pearl back, this is what it will look like," he declared to no one, "except then the blighters would take all of me coin." He leaped down the pipe and emerged in the water with raccoon ears and a tail.

"Now I look like the other man!" he said happily to himself.

It was possible the concussion was leaving Jack even less rational than he usually was.
