They really should warn a vampire before putting bricks right at forehead height, Eric decided, grumbling a bit to himself as he stomped into the club.

With raccoon ears and a tail. "You say ONE WORD, Tiny," he snarled, tail lashing, "and I'll kill you."

And that's how Eric found out that his tail could make him fly.

The Devil's Nest was open. Eric was sulking in his corner.

"I don't think that's it."

"My natural charisma?" Jessica said with a shrug, ears wiggling. "I don't know. Why do you think?"

"Because this island doesn't like me."

"Awwww," Jessica said, settling down beside Eric. "The island doesn't like anybody. It turned me into a boy once."

"I'm going to tell Sookie how much I don't approve," Eric said.

Because this was all Sookie's fault, somehow. Yes.

"I don't think there's much Sookie can do about it," Jessica giggled, somehow -- SOMEHOW -- resisting the urge to give Eric's ears a scritch. "Her boyfriend turns into a penguin all the time and there ain't nothin' she can do about that."

"He's a werepenguin? That seems...useless," Eric decided, "at least this far from the arctic."

"He's real cute, though," Jessica said. "All tiny and fluffy. But it must suck for him in the summer."

Now was as good a time as any to stick in a lesson about were-vampire relationships. "Werewolves like to think they are the only ones who can be a 'were' anything," Eric told her. "They refer to everyone else as 'shifters'. We're vampires. We don't care."

Because they were clearly the dominant predator.
