Prom 2011, Community Center, Friday Evening [Part 2]

Some of the balloons had deflated, and the streamers were hanging a little lower, but prom was still going strong. The punch might not have been safe anymore, but the dance floor was, and with the prom court announcements coming, there was plenty of time left to have some fun.

The most magical point in the evening came at last. The music stopped, the lights at the stage dimmed and then a sudden burst of spotlights swirled to the opening beat of TNT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bPQAWZFZlM), announcing the arrival of the school's most Awesome Dean of Students.

He grabbed a microphone, singing along for the first few lines in an outrageous fashion before extremely fake applause encouraged the students to join in and listen up as this man was about to get his speech on.

"Now that I have your undivided attention, let me start by congratulating the young ladies of Fandom for remembering what it is to be verging on eighteen and not bothering going along with that horrible cry out for them to dress their age. Men and lesbians everywhere salute you and your hemline! But now, we have the real reason I stand before you tonight - your 2011 Prom Court selections have been decided!" Barney raised the results envelope high in the air, waiting for some thunderous applause. If there was none, the staff had been informed to create it electronically. Ahh.

"I hold in my hands the names of either the hottest, most popular seniors, or the kids who paid you to vote for them so they could show off their crowns to the losers back home. Either way, this is Fandom, not public school, people. Make them friend request you twice before you add them back, it's the new return call."

"But enough about the losers, let's see the winners!" The envelope was quickly torn and tossed aside with a shocked gasp. "We have a tie, my people! Your dualling Prom Queens are Kate Gregson and Sookie Stackhouse! Don't fight over your Prom King and Prom Prince, respectively Jonothon Evan Starsmore and Peter Bishop, as you run for the dance floor, ladies!" Barney was ready to hand over their tiaras and crowns, thankful el presidente and his student council were always prepared for these strange circumstances as the music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo) started back up. Oh yes, the Dean of Students hoped these kids were having the time of their lives. Who knew what insanity would attack them on the morrow.

It was probably fortunate that Jono couldn't eat, because if he'd been hanging out by the food tables, he would have choked on it.

Peter stared.

"Okay, now I'm worried about pigs blood," was his brilliant reaction.

Yeah, he was only slightly less skeptical than Jono.

Sookie was incredulous, and okay, maybe a little dorkily excited. (Maybe a lot dorkily excited.) She was prom queen! She got a tiara! No one was getting beheaded! Best prom ever.

So forgive her if her, "Shut the front door," came out half giggle, half happy exclamation. And also forgive her for saying that in the first place. Oh, Sookie.

When Bod heard Kate's name, he started whistling and clapping and wondered just what this would do to her healthy ego. He decided he didn't care if it made her smile.

Kate needed to have a reaction ping despite the mun having passed out before the announcement seriously looked like she didn't believe her ears for a moment. She just... stared, up at the stage, looking like she expected Dean Stinson to correct himself at any moment now. Kate Gregson thought herself a great many things, but a likely Prom Queen (even one of two) was not one of them.

And yet no correction ever came, so she couldn't help jumping up and down a bit as she clasped her hands together and squealed, absolutely delighted, "Oh my God I'm a fucking Prom Queen!"

Best prom ever.

Once the announcement had been made, the DJ cued up a very special song for the kings and queens.

After showing up a little bit late (and hopefully without being noticed entering... because he made his own fun), Bruce made his way into the crowd, no longer hiding. After all, it was the first Fandom prom he could get into without an senior girlfriend. He had to actually make an appearance eventually.

Bod was still around, nursing a spiked drink and having real fun at a dance for the first time in awhile. He'd missed this sort of feeling.

Rinoa and Squall were late. Not for any smutty reason, but because they'd been up crazy-late at a party in Bon Temps, and Rinoa had decided she was okay with arriving a little after prom had started.

She had considered not going, but there was dancing, and she had a gorgeous ice-blue dress that she had bought weeks ago.

And Squall was ... wearing a tux again. "That's not the one you had on last night," she noted.

Well. The one he had on last night had been covered in blood and goo.

Food Table and Punch

There were still desserts left to be eaten, and the punch had taken on a nice spiked aroma. Drink carefully!

Nathan had left the dark corners eventually because he'd wanted some of that spiked punch. Actually, he wanted to just douse his head in the punch bowl but he figured that might look bad so he'd just stand there and drink.

Jenny had nothing at all to do with the spiking of the punch. Really. She swore.

Okay, maybe a tiny something. Nonetheless, she was standing by the refreshments table enjoying the chocolate-covered strawberries and other assorted nibbles.

Leda was sitting on the edge of the dance floor. Under her dress, her tail was flicking to the beat as she watched the dancers.

This was how cats danced, you see. At least around humans. Humans who weren't picking up said cat and swinging her around the dance floor. Or waving a feather at her. She'd prefer a feather, but if anyone wanted to pick her up, well, she wouldn't mind.

Especially anyone wearing feathers.

Even though he was pretty sure she'd had a little too much punch a little too late in the evening, Bruce led Scully to the dance floor. After all, a promise was a promise.

"Are you sure you can dance in those heels?" Bruce checked.
