Jessica was perched on her stool by the door, though her attention was more on the book in her hands. She'd bought a book about vampire folklore, and had reached the chapter on Asian vampires, specifically the Malaysian Penanggalan and the Filipino Manananggal. The Penanggalan is a detached female head capable of flying about on its own. As it flies, the stomach and entrails dangle below it, and these organs twinkle like fireflies as the Penanggalan moves through the night. The Penanggalan are said to feed on human blood or human flesh and are able to move their intestines like tentacles.

"Well, that's just gross," she muttered to herself with a shudder. She'd never been happier that her own head remained firmly attached.
