Luke's Diner | Friday

It was a thoughtful Bod that made his way into the diner today. He said a few quiet hellos to the staff before donning an apron, grabbing a rag and getting to work on wiping down the counters. The smells of food were already enticing him into eating an early lunch but he couldn't do that right away. He had a feeling he'd be eating a lot on his break.

Glad to see you again, Friday.

It was Friday, and Ariel had been neglecting taking advantage of a certain diner employee on Fridays. It was time to remedy that.

And so there was a redhead bouncing onto one of the stools at the counter giving off an effervescent, "Hi, Bod!"

"Hullo there, Ariel," Bod said, giving her a wave and a grin. "How are you enjoying this Friday? Not too cold, is it?"

[No worries!]

"Not too cold," Ariel allowed, "though I did like the warmer weather better. I guess I'll just have to have something nice and warm today. How is your Friday going?"

"It's going well thus far, thank you," Bod said, nodding. "I had a class earlier in the day that should prove helpful and tomorrow I've a shift at the library and for the rest of the day, I'll just be here."

"Ooooh, you're working at the library now, too?" Ariel said with a smirk. "Good! Now I'll have a new place to pester you in!"

"Why would you call it pestering when I enjoy your company?" Bod wondered. "That's not pestering, that's visiting."

"Oh, sure, Bod," said Ariel, shaking her head. "Take all the fun out of it."

"I'm sorry. You can continue to call it pestering but I just can't say I'll feel pestered," he laughed. "It just won't happen."

"I think that's a fair compromise," Ariel allowed with a nod before another smirk surfaced. "So, Bod. Something came up in a conversation with someone earlier this week, and I was wondering if maybe you could help me out a little."

"I...can try," he offered, nodding. "There's no way for me to know if I can help until you tell me what you need but I'm sure I can try."

"I want to try fried Cheetos," Ariel informed him. "I know you have a fryer here; I don't know anywhere else I could pull it off."

"Fried...Cheetos?" Bod asked, looking confused. "Isn't that a potato chip?"

There was a bit of a pause.

"Is it?" Ariel asked, eyes a little wide. "It doesn't taste like a potato chip."

It tasted like pure awesome.

"Besides, you can fry just about anything, right?"

"I don't know whether a potato chip would stand up to any kind of frying," Bod said thoughtfully. "It's not that strong. I think it might break up and dissolve."

"Maybe," said Ariel. "But there's only one way to find out for sure, right?"

"I think this is actually a question for Lacey," Bod said carefully. "I wouldn't want to damage her equipment without her knowledge and there's no way to tell what frying a potato chip might do."

Talking to the boss about it, Ariel could do that. She definitely wouldn't want to get Bod in trouble. So she nodded. "When is she usually in?"

"I believe she's in on Mondays," Bod provided after checking with the cooking staff. "She might even let you do right then under her supervision. I'd just have no idea how to even begin frying a Cheeto."

"I'm pretty sure you just drop it in the fryer and then take it out before it might disintegrate," Ariel shrugged. "But, yeah, probably best done under owner supervision, if anything. Besides, she probably knows where all the fire extinguishers are, just in case."

"How did you even come to want to fry a Cheeto?" Bod wondered. "That's a bit unusual."

Ariel shrugged. "I wanted to know what it would taste like," she answered. "I was talking to one of the new kids about my Cheetos pizza, and it just came up that you could fry anything, so I thought, Cheetos! I should fry a Cheeto!"

"You'll have to tell me how it goes," Bod said, nodding. "I don't think I'd want to eat a fried Cheeto but perhaps you'll create a new delicacy without even knowing it."
