Luke's Diner | Friday

Bod was slightly late getting into work today because of both his class, his subsequent trip into town and time spent on the deck. The cooking staff didn't seem to mind as they were busily cooking food and enjoying the fact that the weekend was coming and they were in a nice, warm environment. Bod put an apron on and went about wiping down the counters.

Luke's was open and delicious smells were abounding!

"I don't think that will happen but yes, I'd say just keep asking until that that situation occurs," Bod said, nodding. "I doubt she gets angry and tries to chase you away though."

"See, now that almost sounds like a new challenge," Ariel realized.

"You...shouldn't try to do that," Bod said, shaking his head. "Not after she's been so nice to you by letting you fry a potato chip."

"I still don't think Cheetos are technically potato chips," Ariel countered, twisting up her face a little because she knew he probably made a good point there, too, and gosh darn him for his sagacity. "I guess I'll wait and see what she says about the peanut butter and jelly, and go from there."

"Well, I do wish you the best of luck," Bod said, nodding. "If she says no, at least you know you can easily toast the bread and have a slightly different experience with the sandwich."

"It won't be quite the same," Ariel allowed, but she smiled and, elbows on the counter, leaned forward to cradle her chin in her hands. "All this talk though has made me want PB & J. Can you have the kitchen make me one?"

"Of course," Bod said, writing that order down and handing it back to the staff. "That shouldn't take any time at all unless you'd like something fancy done with it?"

"Do you consider a side of fries and a Dr. Pepper fancy?" Ariel wondered.

"I don't but we can easily add that to your order," Bod offered. "It would complete your meal, wouldn't it?"

"That's what I was thinking," said Ariel with a faint smile. "And, I don't know, you can add a little sprig of parsley; that makes it fancy, right?"

Bod scribbled down the additions to her order and handed them back to the cook. "It might take a little longer now since they've got to cook the fries."

"Hey, I don't mind if you don't mind," said Ariel with a laugh. "All I've got planned today is lunch here and then the party later. You're going, right?"

"My girlfriend's the one in charge," Bod pointed out, nodding. "So yes, I'm going. I'm actually helping set up. I'll be going there when I'm done here."

There was a little bit of a pause there before Ariel's jaw practically dropped to the counter.

"You're back with Kate?" she all but squealed. "When did that happen?"

"Oh, it's been...over a month now," he said and smiled a bit. "I would have thought radio would have let everyone know that by now. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

"Over a month?" Ariel gawked at him. "Bod! You can't get back with your girlfriend for over a month now and not tell me about it. I'm usually out exploring by the time radio comes on in the morning, you know."

"I'm sorry! I just assumed people knew," he said and blushed. "We were able to talk through several things and we both still wanted to be with each other so we're trying again."

"Well," said Ariel, giving Bod a faint smile but a slight look of concern, "I just hope, you know...I know the first break up wasn't easy, so I have a feeling another one would probably be harder, so....be careful, okay? If you're happy, then I'm happy for you, but I want you to actually stay happy, you know?"

"You're not the first one to say that and I know all the possible things that might happen," Bod assured her, nodding. "But, it's a second chance and how many of those do you get?"

"Well, one," Ariel pointed out, her smile gaining a little more. "Because, after that, it becomes a third chance. Then a fourth. Then a fifth..."

He should get the idea.

"Hush, you," Bod said, stepping back to retrieve her sandwich, fries and drink. He settled them in front of her. "I want to be with Kate and right now, what I feel for her outweighs any possible bad things."

"And let's hope that no other bad things happen so that you don't end up eating those words like I'm eating these french fries," Ariel said, plucking one up as soon as the plate was set down and popping it into her mouth.

"I refuse to think that way," Bod replied, shrugging. "I love her. But I thank you for looking out for me."

"Hey, I'm your friend," Ariel said. "That's what I'm here for."

Even if she was pretty sure that Bod's refusal to think that way was just going to get him hurt again. He was happy, though, so she'd be good and not say anything.

"Thank you," Bod said and decided to leave her to her meal while he went about wiping up counters and helping out the cooking staff where he was needed.
