Chilly Boulder, Saturday Afternoon
"Oh my god, this ice cream is, like, totally rad," Karla said, and then tried not to facepalm. From the moment she woke up this morning, if she didn't pay attention to what she was saying, words like 'radical' and 'bodacious' would sometimes fall out of her mouth.
Which was really just adding insult to injury, considering something awful had happened to her hair and no matter what she did to it, it refused to uncrimp, unfeather, or untease, she had somehow ended up with a faceful of neon makeup, and her shirt was seven sizes too big, slashed to all Hell, and kept falling off one shoulder.
The less said about her too-tight zebra-striped pants? The better.
Which was why she was at Chilly Boulder, turning to the sovereign power of ice cream to make the horror go away.
"Like, gag me with a spoon. This is, like, lame to the max."
Kill her now.

Oops.
So, anyway, there was going to be ice cream now that she felt better. Also making her feel better was the girl already here, who seemed to be in the same boat. "You too, huh?"

And then she was having a bite of ice cream to fend off any random 'bogus' 'yo momma' comments that might feel the need to be said.

"I think I'm safe," she decided, super cautiously.

Annie would understand if Karla decided to just beat her head on the table a little bit, right? Right?
Okay, head-desking was probably not the best move. She decided to eat more ice cream instead. And stick to smaller sentences. "Karla," she said quickly, before taking another bite. And waved.
Ha! Couldn't mess that up!

(zomg that is fine. I got pulled away for video gaming, and then I crashed, and then my laptop was busted, so, um. hooray for SP? :| )

She also wasn't here at Chilly Boulder for ice cream, because she didn't want to get fat. She was getting a Diet Coke.
She raised an eyebrow at the girl with ... seriously trashy hair.
"Bad day?"
See? She could be nice.

Karla blinked, trying to figure out where those thoughts had come from and what they even meant, and then gave a half-hearted wave.
"Like, oh my god, you have no idea," she said. "I think my roommate, like, stole my AquaNet this morning. I, like, couldn't find any."
Did Claire know how hard it was, not having AquaNet? Did she?
no subject
"You need to borrow some?" she asked. "I guess you could borrow mine."
She supposed. Because Claire was generous like that, to the lesser types. Like this ... Valley Girl wannabe. She took the seat at the girl's table, eying her critically.
Why had she never seen this girl before, anyway?
"Are you new?"

crueltywhimsy of the island wasn't letting her hair fall, but it still felt weird not sitting in a haze of hairspray."And, like, no way! This is, like, my third summer." Which is the only reason Karla wasn't locked in her room, sobbing. This too, would pass.
Eventually.
"But, like, welcome to the island and stuff." Because she was obviously new. Karla'd never seen her before and Karla knew everybody who was anybody! "I'm Karla."

Hello, Chilly Boulder. Warren is mildly horrified, wearing ripped acid wash and a plain tank top, and needs therapy ice cream.
NOW.
no subject
Run, Warren. Keep running.
"I am, like, sooooooooo glad to see you!" Karla's perkily excited tone was at odds with her expression, which suggested she was contemplating drowning herself in her second bowl of ice cream. "Come and join me! This ice cream is, like, totally choice even if everything else on this island is utterly bogus right now."
no subject
See? Ice cream. Ice cream solved all.
"It got you too, huh?"

"Are they real?" she asked.
His wings. Not the crazy lady's hair. Obviously.
She hadn't seen him before, but she'd been at Fandom for a while, so she was used to oddities and abnormalities. Hot guy with wings, that one was new.
no subject
"Totally," he agreed, spreading one just a bit to demonstrate. "But I'm not, like, some kind of angel or anything like that. Before you ask."
Or before you start singing.

Oooh, ice cream. She used to get ice cream on the boardwalk before she'd caught David's eye, and she missed that. So she just had to step inside and look around.

Just as he was coming into Chilly Boulder, one of the ice cream makers broke down causing the staff member to cry out in dismay.
Mac just grinned and offered his assistance.
Twenty minutes later, along with a tube sock, a ball point pen and some Saran Wrap, Mac had repaired the ice cream machine much to the clerk's delight.
Mac still insisted on paying for his ice cream though. Fix it up was half the fun.

Wow. Whoever this guy was, he was rocking the mullet.

He gave Karla a close look. "Have we met? I thought I knew all the students on the island."
