Pixie Dust; Tuesday [ 05/24 ].

All this rain just meant one thing: CUTE RAIN GEAR!

Ariel had a lot of fun pulling out some of the springtime rain gear back out front and center in the shop, while all the while being absolutely fascinated by all the different ways and all the energy put in by humans to keep from getting wet. She loved getting wet, herself, but even she could be convinced to stay a bit drier if it meant wearing such adorable things.

Because she might need help picking out which umbrella she thought was the cutest, too!

Even if the island had taken a turn for the non-beachy surroundings, Kate hadn't forgotten about what she'd been talking about with Ariel on Friday.

She was, however, making her best impression of a drowned rat when she made it into the store with her rather tattered-looking umbrella. "Goddammit Fandom, are you shitting me with this weather?"

Ariel gave a faint smile at that rather distinctive entrance. "Hi, Kate."

It was the only way to make an entrance really. If you were Kate. And pissy.

"Hey, Ariel," she returned the greeting, a little calmer now. "Nice beach weather were having now, huh?"

"It was nice while it lasted," Ariel said, offering out a terry cloth robe for Kate if she wanted to dry off a little. "And think of it this way, if it rains all week, then the island really owes us with something nice when it's all done."

"I don't know, I'm afraid I may have used up my 'something nice' already, since I got one of my friends back from the dead and everything."

... Oh, right. That was the other thing they'd talked about at the party.

"Yeah, um. Nathan kinda... came back? From the dead."

"So I heard on the radio this morning," Ariel said, lifting her eyebrows a little like she didn't know what to think about that. She started going behind the counter to try to remember where she put those shells she was making for Kate. "It got me wondering if dead means the same thing around here as it does back home, because Raven 'died,' too. I'm glad they're back, really glad, but it's making me pretty confused because when people die back home, they kind of....stay that way..."

"Yeah, I definitely get that," Kate replied, wandering towards the counter as well, using the robe to keep from dripping water on anything. "Although I've met so many vampires that it's kinda getting blurry, but where I'm from it's the same. If you die, you're dead. End of story."

"It's too bad," said Ariel distantly as she pulled out a box and placed it on the counter, "that the coming back part can't be the same everywhere."

There seemed to be a desire to dwell on that a little bit, but of course Ariel wasn't going to allow that to happen. She smiled, faintly, as she opened the box to reveal the pair of yellow seashells she'd wanted to make for Kate. "And there's your shells! Bad timing for them, but there's got to be warm weather again sometime soon. I had to guess a little on your size, but go ahead and try them on and if you need different ones, I'll make it so."

Kate noticed something off, but decided not to ask. And definitely not push, because that was reserved for people she was good at reading, and after last week she was looking to have her life be lighter for a while anyway.

"At the very least, I can take the causeway portal back to where we're supposed to be, it should be warm there," she noted as she reached for the shells. "Okay. Point me to a dressing room."

"Right down that-a-way," said Ariel, pointing toward the back of the store. "There's a matching bottom in there, too, if you want to make it a complete set."

There was a slight pause.

"A regular bathing suit bottom," she clarified, with a grimace that made it clear that a bottom made of shells would just be insane.

Kate snorted. "Yeah, I figured." Because... no. No, thank you. She turned to go where the other gilr had pointed her. "I'll be back in a sec."

"Just holler if you need anything!" Ariel called out as she turned her attention to her display of umbrellas in front of the counter while she waited. She was putting in a bunch of yellow ones now, inspired by the color they'd picked for Kate's shells, as well as just that it was something bright and cheerful to help keep her mind off less bright and cheerful things.

Kate took her time. A lot of it seemed to be spent making faces at her damp hoodie and shirt as she took them off. Seriously, she was going to have to buy one of those umbrellas for later.

Actually trying on the seashell bra made things a bit better. Yellow was kind of a cheerful color, and it made her seriously wish they'd still been in Egypt. Plus, she could already picture Bod's face upon first seeing her wearing this new acquisition.

Coming back out, again fully clothed, she looked way more pleased than she had when she'd first come in the store. "You know, I think they're pretty much the right size already."

"Awwww," Ariel laughed a little as Kate emerged from the dressing room in the same clothes she went in with. "You mean I don't even get to see them?"

"Well, I didn't feel like parading around the store in..." Kate's voice trailed off for a moment as something dawned on her. "... a piece of clothing that's basically meant to be worn in public. Okay, I'm a dumbass."

Ariel chuckled, not unkindly. "I guess that just means I'll have to wait until the next beach party to see it," she said, because, this way, that meant there had to be a next beach party for Kate to wear her new beach attire.

"Guess so," Kate replied with a slightly wry smile. "We'll just have to hope for a jump to a warmer location again. In the meantime, I'm gonna need a new umbrella."

"Lucky you!" said Ariel, gesturing to the display. "We've got plenty of them. Really cute ones, too! I love this fish one (http://www.thisnext.com/show/item-images/4FDBA960/) best, I think."

"That is pretty cute," Kate agreed as she went to look at the display. "I'm definitely in the market for something pretty quirky." A moment of looking, and -- "Oooh. Oh my God, this one has the sky on the underside."

"So even though it's raining, you can look up and it's still blue skies," noted Ariel with obvious approval.

"Exactly," Kate agreed. "Nothing like a little bit of self-deception to make the day better. So yeah, I'm definitely taking this."

"You should pick out a cute raincoat to go with it, too!" said Ariel, with the enthusiasm not of a salesperson, but more of an EEEE CLOTHES variety.

"I totally should!" It didn't take much to sell that idea to Kate, anyway. "Do you have anything with, like, polka dots or something?"

Because now I want a cute rain slicker, too. Despite the sun outside.
