Devil's Nest, Tuesday Evening.

Thanks to their new location, the DJ was spinning some of the greatest hits of J-Pop and visual kei groups. Emma, for her part, was happy to stay as far away from the dance floor and the speakers as possible tonight, and hope that they weren't going to be here for long.

Ugh. They were still across from Tokyo. If she closed her eyes, Karla could almost feel it--though it felt more like an absence than a presence. Either way, she was more than ready to go.

But since the island apparently didn't cater to her whims, they were staying for a bit. Rather than sit in her room and brood or go out and garden in the omnipresent rain, she decided to go find Emma and poke at her for awhile. It had been far, far, far too long since she'd seen most of her friends, it felt like.

Emma smirked when she saw one of her favorite blondes peek her head in. "Kiss kiss, darling," she drawled, waving the marker at Karla. "I'll pay your cover if you come keep me entertained tonight."

"That's a deal I can live with," Karla said, vanishing her coat and adjusting the pant cuffs. She was wearing her suit again; it was dressy enough that Emma wouldn't tease (probably) and the subdued colors were a restful change from all the neon of the weekend. She held her hand out for Emma to mark. "Then I can save my money to offer Tiny increasingly ridiculous bribes to let me drink."

He wouldn't of course, but that didn't stop the game from being fun.

"Kiss kiss, darling, I've missed you. I don't think I've seen you since graduation."

"I've been here and there," Emma promised evasively. "Working here, and as a TA. And I don't spend much time in the dorms since my room is well, empty." Triela. "It feels odd to now have a single and no reason to celebrate it."

Karla hadn't counted the funeral as 'seeing' Emma. Neither of them had been up for socializing much then.

"Well, soon we'll be heading out to the cabins," Karla chided, side-stepping the issue of Triela entirely. "And then you'll have a reason to celebrate when we come back."

"With what, a all-girls sleepover?" Emma retorted, bemused. "It's not as if I have anyone eager to help me break it in."

"And even if Peter Bishop showed back up tomorrow with flowers and an apology, I'd slam the door in his face."

Karla winced. Yeah, Peter Bishop had a lot to answer for. And she was pretty sure Emma didn't want to have it pointed out to her that radio said Jack Priest was back on the island and that he'd probably be thrilled to help.

"We haven't had a good slumber party in months," she said instead. "I'm thinking of having one in the cabins--and getting up to a familiar bit of mischief."

What? It had been fun two years ago, okay?

Emma rolled her eyes and reached over to give Karla a light knock upside the head. "I can hear you," she reminded her friend. "I know perfectly well where Jack is living now, thank you, although perhaps I should go beat him up, for being a recluse and not letting you know he was here."

"Think they'd let us grad girls into your student cabins for a good party?"

"Yes, but I get into less trouble just thinking it where you can hear me than I do saying it out loud," Karla reasoned. "But I agree with you about going to hit him. What's he doing that involves him staying holed up all the time?"

And as for Emma's second question..."I wasn't actually thinking of asking, funny enough. Though if they have a real problem with it, we could always see about renting out the Devil's Nest for a private affair."

Wouldn't Eric just love that?

"I can't imagine what else you might get up to without asking," Emma replied dryly. "And you're still in trouble."

"Why, nothing, Emma!" Karla protested, eyes wide. "This is a one-time event, I assure you!"

Liiiiiiiiiiies.

"You are so full of shit," Emma sighed, shaking her head in mock-woe. "When was the last time you asked before causing trouble?"

"What hurts the most is the automatic assumption I get into trouble," Karla said, sadly shaking her head.

Emma snorted. "What hurts most is when you get caught," she corrected. "Your Prince Yaslana might have decided my name is Trouble, but I'm sure he has choice words for you as well."

She continued talking, even as she mentally commanded Tiny to bring them two pomegranate sodas with lime twists. "Now, choosing the trouble... that's the fun part."

"Most of Lucivar's names for me aren't allowed to be repeated in polite company," Karla said with a grin. "Make a single comment about wingspans and males get so tetchy."

She gave Tiny a nod of approval and sipped at her soda. "As for the trouble I'm thinking of, well, I'm sure you remember the art installation from a few years back?"

The giant antenna decorated with boxers in the middle of he campground? Surely Emma remembered that.

"It is quite hard to forget," Emma replied dryly. "Are you thinking of bringing the event back to town?"

"After two years, I'm thinking that it would do the community good," Karla said piously. "You know, help the newbies settle in. Bring us all closer together. Stuff like that."
