Mystery Sign Theatre 3000, Wednesday

The NPC box office dude was not impressed with how Kate had missed her shift last week for a funeral that had turned out to be on the unnecessary side before even a whole week had passed.

Kate cared not, though. She had cute new raingear to come into work with, and she had an uplifting choice of movie thought out, too, and wouldn't hear any protests about showing movies about cyborgs and futuristic dystopian settings. She thought there was enough of all that available just by going outside and off the island.

So, the marquee was updated with her choice.

Distract her from the fact that she has Make 'Em Laugh stuck in her head as she puts some new candy on display.

Since Bod didn't have a class today, it felt like the perfect time to wander down to the movie theatre and visit his favorite employee. Of course, he hadn't counted on the rain being so driving so when he stepped in, his jacket was dripping wet, his pants were soaked up near the knee and there was wet hair clinging to his forehead.

Kate... was a bad girlfriend and couldn't resist laughing a bit when she saw him. "Oh my God," she said, in a tone that suggested an unspoken 'awwwww', "look what floated in with the flood."

[You got it, bb.]

"It's raining outside," he said, trying to get out of his wet, dripping coat. "I underestimated just how much and how hard it was raining. I'm slightly wet now."

"Yes, I can see that," Kate replied, stepping out from behind the counter to come closer and help him. "Just a bit."

"Just a bit," he agreed, dragging his fingers through his wet hair. "I'm not used to seeing such consistent driving rain. And I tend to like the rain but this is a bit much."

"You should've done what I did," she noted, taking his wet coat from him. "I got a bunch of new rain stuff from Pixie Dust yesterday."

"Thank you," he said, shaking his arms out. "And I don't even know if new rain gear would protect from this. I would have had to be clad from head to toe in a hat, a slicker and galoshes."

"Well, I made it here okay," Kate shrugged. "In my new raincoat, holding my new umbrella. But I may have gotten lucky."

"Perhaps luck is just not with me today," he said but smiled. "But, I wanted to see you so I'll take being a little wet. I'm sure I'll dry in due time. It's just a little water."

"Exactly," she agreed, then reached for his hand, holding his coat over her other arm, away from her body. "Come on, we can go hang this up in the back room and I can see if there's anything... towel-like anywhere."

"Thank you," he said, lacing his fingers with her and following behind her. "Is the rain keeping people away?"

Kate snorted as she pulled him along and pushed open the door marked 'staff only'. "I would say yes, except they just generally stay away all the time, so I guess this is just another normal day."

"Well, I'm here and I'll probably be staying awhile since it'll take me a bit to dry and perhaps the rain will slow down in the interim," Bod said hopefully. "So, you'll have me for company."

"Dude, you can stay all day if you want," Kate told him, glancing back over her shoulder as she led him into the room, then let go of his hand to go to her locker. "I don't think anyone's gonna mind, and then you can share my umbrella once it's time to go."

"If you don't mind, I'd love to stay all day," Bod said, sounding pleased with that. "There's nothing else I have to do today so I'm yours, if you don't mind a wet Englishman bothering you all day."

"Please, as if I would mind." She found a hanger for his coat, and hung it up to dry over her locker door. "I probably would've just been sneaking into watch bits and pieces of What A Glorious Feeling all day if you hadn't shown up."

"And now you can help me dry off," he said and laughed. "I don't know whether that's a good trade off or not."

"Well it's better than sitting on my ass, staring into the middle distance all day," Kate quipped as she started rummaging around the random crap they had in the back room. (Oh like anyone working here was good at keeping stuff organized.) "That is, if I can find anything to help you dry off."

"If you can't, I'm sure I'll dry naturally," Bod said, shaking his hair out again. "I don't want to trouble you too much."

"Shush, stop saying you're trouble," she chided, lightly. "You're not."

A silent film production company and cast make a difficult transition to sound.

Wherein there is occasionally a manager.

I want to be at home watching Singin' in the Rain, sigh. Stupid few last days of spring term.
