Fast Eddie's - Wednesday evening

Jake shivered as he made it inside the door and water trickled past his collar and down his spine. Not that he was going to complain about the temperature or the rain, he probably just should have grabbed a jacket with a hood. At least he had gotten there before Caroline, so maybe his hair wouldn't be all plastered to his head by the time she joined him.

He took a moment to check out the games they had before he found himself a table as he waited for Caroline to show up.

[Fast Eddie's open. Jake's here for his date, but he's totes pokeable before she gets there.]

Caroline didn't mean to make him wait, but sometimes these things happened. But hey, it gave him a chance to consider how much he wished she was around and that was always welcome, right?

"Oh good! I was worried someone would snatch you up since I was late," Caroline said, walking over to Jake's table and shaking out her umbrella before ditching it on a chair along with her adorable rain coat.

Jake snorted and he leaned forward, elbows resting on the table. "Yeah? Why? Do I look that pathetic?"

"A little damp, maybe," she said, glad she was still standing so she could reach over and play her fingers through his hair. "But you never know what some passing girl could think...seeing an adorable puppy all alone." Caroline knew there was the chance he'd be annoyed by her teasing but she was amusing herself.

Maybe, if she hadn't had her fingers in his hair.

"An adorable puppy with teeth," he pointed out. As nice as it was, he reached up to catch her wrist and draw her around the table."

And willingly she moved herself around the table to where he was sitting. "What, do you bite now? I think there's a pet shop in town, I could pick up a muzzle..."

"Only mean leeches," he wrinkled his nose at her, but clearly she didn't qualify as he was pulling her head down for a kiss.

Caroline would never stop wondering what she might do to get back into that category of leeches, but so long as she wasn't there now, she was happy to oblige and kiss Jake. She thought he should be aware that she'd missed him, after all.

He was aware. Very aware, but they still were in public and he drew back after an instant, his hands resting on her hips as he grinned at her. "Hey."

She crinkled her nose, not liking hey and all the 'whatever' connotations that went with it. "So we're playing pool, huh?"

Awwww, but his hey was all friendly and fond.

He glanced around the towards the tables. "We could. I was kind of wondering if you wanted to bowl, but I can't imagine you wearing someone else's shoes."

"Ugh, thank you," Caroline told him, rewarding Jake with a little hug and a pleased glance at her insanely adorable, if not weather appropriate footwear. "Not only are the shoes smelly and ugly, but I'm seriously terrible at bowling. I'm way better at eating junk food and making fun of other people's attempts."

Jake chuckled and he bobbed his head, her reaction pretty much exactly what he expected. Plus, he couldn't fault her about the shoes. He could smell them from here. "Okay, so pool. You want to set the table and I'll get us something to drink? What do you want?"

"I suppose I can manage it," she said, considering playing dumb for her own entertainment. "But only if you can find me a root beer and a straw." Since clearly alcohol would not be a part of her evening.

"I suppose I can manage that," he teased, getting to his feet. Which left her standing way too close so he just should lean down and steal another kiss.

The whole can't keep my hands off you phase was still going strong.

It didn't count as stealing if she was willing to give it up and push up onto her toes to make it a little easier on him. When she pulled back after a moment Caroline wore a rather stupid smile on her face. "Remind me why we're here again?"

Oh god, like he had a clue.

"I think you wanted me to see you with your clothes on," he decided and he was going to step away now and get those drinks.

Caroline laughed. "That doesn't sound anything like me," she called after him, watching him walk away before she started getting the table set up.

It didn't, but then Jake couldn't imagine it had been his idea either. He definitely didn't think it had been when he glanced back to see her leaning over the table.

He got the guy behind the counter to add a straw to her root beer before he returned. "Okay, so what are we playing for here? There should be a price."

"A price? Like you want to win something?" Caroline looked thoughtful for a moment. "But what if I'm seriously bad at this game?" She wasn't, though she could pretend...for the experience.

"Then you'll lose and I'll win," he said easily and he placed the drinks on the table before he moved to stand beside her. "That's how it usually goes when you bet."

"So what do you want to win?" Caroline asked, thinking the bet should decide how much effort she put into this game.

His eyes swept down her body and that was probably way too predictable and it was something he could get without a bet. That meant he should try to think of something else.

"You bake me cookies."

"Cookies?" Caroline was just going to stare at him. "That is what you want from me. You suck at pool, huh?" Only possible reason he would ask for something that had the potential to kill him.

"Okay, fine," he nodded. He could do better. Just give him a moment. "You let me put a real engine in your car."

That was realistic.

"Pfft," Caroline scoffed, so thinking he was teasing her. "There is nothing wrong with my car's engine. I will bake you car-shaped cookies if you win, but if you lose I get to break out a leash."
