The constant rain was a bit reminiscent of home. Without, of course, the scorching heat, slogging mud and dangerous animals and people.

Still, Helen and the horses were indoors yet again.

"Hello, The Gig!" a slightly soggy squire called out as he approached.

"Ah, Helen," he said, spying her. "Is everything okay?"

"Just tired of the rain," she said quietly.

"It rains for days at a time in Krondor with the summer storms, but there's usually a respite, a few days in the sun in between." He sighed. "I tire of it also."

"With any luck the island will move again soon to someplace a bit nicer," Helen said hopefully.

He paused. "I fear for myself when that makes sense," he said, following up his statement with a small smile.

"No point in avoiding the truth of the island's oddities," she said with a smile.

"Truth," he admitted. "But not something with which to write home of often." Or possibly ever.

Arutha had already sent several inquiries after the squire's sanity after reading some of the more interesting of James's letters.

"My homeworld is not frequented by such issues often," he admitted.

"We are aware," he said slowly. "This is the second that I know of. The first is not regarded fondly."

Too many war veterans, sons who didn't return.

"There are a number who use the destructive bombs caused by splitting atoms on their worlds. The devastation is... unspeakable," Helen said sadly.

"Well, you do hang out with a dangerous crowd," he intoned, a teasing lilt in his voice.

Namely, anyone at Fandom who could end the world, overthrow governments, or control nations through baked goods.
