The Perk- Wednesday evening

When Jaina showed up here, she hadn't expected this visit to seem normal at all. It felt like sort of a miracle that it did, in fact. Which wasn't to say that there hadn't been plenty of sadness or awkwardness, but adjusting to things and going on had been almost automatic. Maybe she really was learning to be a well-adjusted person.

No, not really.

She'd spent most of her time here picking up her old training routine, going to all her old places, and tonight was no different. Rather than sit in her room, she came down to the Perk with her datapad, catching up on everything she needed to know for when she returned home. Occasionally she'd glance at her coffee cup and tell herself that next time, if she was able, she was just bringing caf here with her.

Tahiri wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to see Jaina if she was around; some inexplicable prompting in the Force had told her to hold off for a while, rather than bolt off to find her as soon as she'd sensed that familiar presence, which was probably a good thing given what had prompted the visit.

And now she'd decided that had been long enough to wait, so heading to the Perk it was.

"I can't even be surprised you're working, you know. Just glad to see you."

"It's been a long trip, I have to balance it out with work," she said, smiling and waving her over.

"I don't think you'd be you if you didn't," Tahiri replied; never mind the drink, she just took a seat. "How are things? How's Zekk? I've missed you."

It wasn't quite the breathless rush of words she could pull off, but it was pretty close.

See, last week Jaina hadn't thought she'd be smiling at all this week, but times like now it was surprisingly easy. "I've missed you, too. Things are okay. Zekk and I have been working almost since I left till I got back here... it's been busy. How are you doing?"

"Probably not getting out as much as I should," Tahiri admitted, grinning back -- which was easier around Jaina, and that was a relief. "I'm trying to fix that. I'm doing all right, though; keeping track of everything on Sekot is a pretty full-time job, even from here."

"Sometimes it sneaks up on me that you're that far behind me," Jaina realized. "I didn't know you were keeping track of things while you were here."

"Force, don't remind me," Tahiri said, frowning slightly. "I feel like I'm playing catchup to the rest of you now . . . which is basically what I've been doing. I don't want to jump into things blind when I get there."

Yeah, yeah, jumping into things blind was a fine Jedi tradition, but.

"Can't blame you." Though to be fair, Jaina had been a crabby little bitch because the ships didn't like her when she was there, so she wasn't the biggest fan of the planet. "There are times when getting all the information you can do," she said, gesturing to her own datapad. "You're here for the rest of the summer, right?"

They weren't going to like Tahiri much at first either (or hadn't, in Jaina's case), if that was any consolation?

"Uh huh. So quite a few weeks to go yet," she replied. "I suppose it's too much to hope for that you'll be around until then, isn't it?"

Yes, she was mostly teasing. Mostly.

"Much as I'd like to- and I actually mostly mean that, believe it or not- I need to head off island again tomorrow. A week feels like a really long time," she said. "I figure I'll stop in to see Grandfather first, though."
