Bod wasn't at work today. He'd taken an impromptu trip to Kansas to be with Kate a few days earlier and hadn't returned yet. He'd called to notify the staff of his impending absence which meant they were ready to cover his shift for him. The food was cooking, the counters, tables, chairs and stools were cleaned and Bod was barely missed!

"Happy Fri--" Ariel had burst into the diner as usual, ready to bug Bod with her exuberance, only to find that he wasn't there, and she stopped and tilted her head curiously. "Oh."

But then the kitchen staff, who had seemed to have heard her coming, set down a plate of french fries and some onion rings and some corn dogs on the counter, thoroughly distracting Ariel, so she sat down happy and ate and babbled at them all the while about her recent deep frying adventures.

They didn't mind listening, nor did they mind encouraging some of the crazier ideas she had. After all, that just meant they'd get to see the look on Lacey's face when Ariel came back on Monday to give them a try.
