Devil's Nest - Sunday

There was no incessant rain anymore, and that was enough of a victory to Isabela who had started to worry her daggers might just rust in their sheaths if it let on. This new place they landed in wasn't all that bad and the few people who'd drifted in from the mainland were seedy and gritty in all the right ways. Well, ways she could relate to at least, more than she could to the cleanliness of Fandom either way.

She had a little bet on with one of those cowboys as they seemed to call themselves to see who could drink the most. So she was a couple of dollars richer and her mood was a little more mellow thanks to the drink.

Where Isabela is trying to figure out if they have sarsaparilla.

"It's starting to become increasingly clear ♥," said Shunsui, tilting his hat back as he leaned on the bar and grinned at the pantsless wonder behind it, "why Sunday is such a holy day for so many religions ♥."

Isabela laughed and leaned on the opposite end of the counter. "And yet, somehow no one is ever glad when I wander into their place of worship. Well, the religious places of worship anyway."

"I think that would depend greatly," Shunsui mused, "on how you define what makes a space religious... ♥."

Depending on how you translated it, he was a god of a sorts, after all.

"Oh you know," she said airily. "That place where all those uptight fools go when they want to ask for forgiveness for all the sins they do in between repenting sessions."

Isabela did not repent, no.

"And they manage to do it in only one day ♥?" asked Shunsui, like a man counting his sins and deciding he'd need at the very least a week.

"I think it's a hobby," Isabela said thoughtfully. "I never saw the appeal in it myself."

"Ahhhhhh &hearts," said Shunsui, with a thoughtful rub of his chin. "Seems a waste to me ♥. If you're going to spill out your guts on all your sins, may as well write it down and make some money in a book ♥."

Isabela smirked. "Now that's not a bad way of going about it. I dabble in a bit of writing myself."

"Do you, now ♥?" Shunsui asked, and he actually sounded a little bit intrigued, though he wasn't, not really. He would pretend to read whatever Isabela may have written, but would probably just get bored and pretend he read it. Maybe send it to Nanao-chan so she could read it and give him helpful notes on all the important parts. "I did not know that about you, Isabela-chan ♥! You know I teach writing up at the little school here, and have at least two books under my sash and one more on the way, myself ♥."

Oh, Isabela's writing might not be good, but it wasn't boring at all. It just had a lot of sex in it, and strangely enough seemed to involve the people around her.

"Is that so now?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "And what kind of books do you have with you?"

All the more reason to make Nanao-chan read it; she'd love it!

"Well, I haven't exactly got them with me ♥," Shunsui said. "I'd offer to have you come to my apartment to see them, but I'd hate to use my celebrity to take advantage...♥."

Hate. Just hate! Can't you see how much he'd hate to do that, Isabela?

Hate, apparently, now meant love. Writers could do that, changing words on whim.

"Hmmmmm," she tapped her fingers on the counter. Shame she was supposed to do that working thing. See? This is why pirates didn't keep hours. "Like you didn't take advantage luring innocent girls up for sake?"

Awww, she was catching on.

Well, not that she didn't before, of course.

"Exactly ♥."

"Uh huh," she nodded. "You still have some of that drink?"

What? If she was going to make plans, there better be booze involved.

"Of course ♥," Shunsui nodded, a hand to his chest to shield his poor heart from breaking at the suggestion that he'd gone dry. "I would never neglect my stock of sake, just as I'd never neglect my appreciation for a woman ♥."

Isabela chuckled, nodding her approval. "See, I like a man who knows to appreciate the fine things in life."

"The only thing missing from the equation is music ♥," Shunsui noted before his head jerked back. "Thankfully, the DJ seems to be helping out with that one ♥."

"He's got a fixation," Isabela couldn't help but share since the other ~~NPC~~ customers were failing to notice. "I don't think he's sand a song without at least five lonesomes in it."

"And we definitely wouldn't want to add more lonesomes to that &hearts," Shunsui noted with a sage-like nod.

"No, you wouldn't," she smirked and leaned a little further towards him. "So, did you want something to drink here or did you merely come by to talk me up and get me to come by later?"

"Why go home and drink there when I can stay here and drink and enjoy your company ♥? Shunsui asked.

Company was a metaphor.

Writers!

"Uh huh." It weren't only writers who used that metaphor. Isabela knew that very well and she was only smirking more broadly. "So what will it be then? I don't think we've got any sake."

"No sake?" Shunsui's face fell. "That, Isabela-chan, is a travesty. Who's the owner of this joint? Is a beautiful woman who I may need to have a talk with ♥?"

"Oh sure, run off and break my heart," Isabela sighed. "Her name's Eric and she's a vampire." Not that Isabela understood a whole lot of the vampire thing.

"Eric doesn't sound like much of a woman's name," Shunsui noted with a slight suspicion, "but perhaps we should strike up a deal with my shop so that you're never lacking in sake around here ♥."

"That's because he's not, darling," Isabela chuckled. "And that's not a bad idea. Too bad I can't make that sort of deal around here. It could have been interesting."

"Now whose heart is broken?" asked Shunsui, and there seemed to have actually been a little heartache this time. Working out that kind of deal would have been very, very nice, yes. "Not only the missed opportunity for dealing with another beautiful woman, but also because you are still sake-less. I may have to forgive Eric-san's gender, if only to get some proper booze in here ♥."

"I don't know. The whiskey's pretty damn decent," Isabela tilted her head. She was just going to have to keep smirking at him. "It might even ease some of that broken heart you've got going there."

"Well," Shunsui released a long-suffering sigh, "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. And variety is the spice of life &hearts. The more, the merrier, true for booze as with so much else ♥."

"Wouldn't want it to get boring," she agreed, moving back to find that bottle of whiskey she liked so much.

"Don't think you have to worry about that any time soon ♥," offered Shunsui as he enjoyed the view of her moving back. His head tilted slightly. "Whiskey, then, I take it that's your poison of choice, Isabela-chan ♥?"

Look at him, even sparking a conversation about her interests...Granted, those interests were also his interests, but still!

She could even put an extra swagger in her step if he was going to watch.

"It is here," she replied, returning with the bottle and a glass that she filled up way too generously for him. "Don't always get to be choosy everywhere."

And that generosity was another reason Shunsui liked Isabela-chan as much as he did.

"And that," he said, patting his side, "is why I try never to leave home without my own ♥."

She grabbed her own glass to fill it up as well. "Ooooooooh, always prepared, huh? Smart man. I'll know who to bug when there's a dry spell."

Shunsui gave a gracious nod, lifting up his glass of whiskey to Isabela-chan to prompt a toast. "To always knowing where the good stuff is ♥," he proposed.

Where the DJ seemed to have been mysteriously replaced by a guy singing about lonesome mountains and lonesome cowboys.

For lonesome vampires if they're around
