Karla was drawing up some display ideas for their new location, as well as several other summer-themed plans. She had several catalogs open on the counter and a list of inventory to check it against. A neat display every week would surely drum up business, wouldn't it?

Once she was done figuring out the orders for future displays, maybe she'd hunt around and see what she could put together from what was already in the store.

Jack supposed he should have checked in with Karla a week or so ago, but he hadn't been able to think of anything to say. (Not that he had much in particular to say now, beyond that things sucked a lot sometimes, but the wound was less raw.)

"Working on anything in particular?" he asked, as he approached the counter. "And hi there."

Waiting that week had been a good idea--not that he would have been able to find her if he hadn't. Karla had been an unreachable hermit for most of last week. Still, she appreciated the space.

"Kiss kiss," she said, waving Jack over. "I'm thinking of making a few displays to go on the counters and things. You know, draw people's attention and stuff. Maybe people will stop thinking of the stuff in here as some kind of scary..." she searched for a word, then shrugged and gave up "...whatever if they saw it in like a mini diorama thing, you know?"

Jack blinked, considering it. His initial reaction was rather Victorian, but that didn't mean it was the right one.

"I'm getting the worst mental image of dildos with little faces painted on them," he confessed. "That's not the kind of diorama you mean, is it?"

Karla couldn't answer right away. There was snickering that needed to be done. "No, no," she said, waving her arms in a futile attempt to banish that image. "I mean like...sometimes we get novelty items, like vibrators shaped like pineapples and stuff. And I could...take the fruit-scented condoms and the, uhh, mango scented lube and...make a fruit basket! Or...something."

She did pause to scribble that down, however.

"Pineapples?" Fantastic, now Jack was snickering too. That sounded like it would hurt.

Bananas, on the other hand ...

"The perfect gift to welcome someone you fancy to Fandom, I'd imagine,"
he said, trying to sound wise around the smirk. "You could even put in some real fruit, just in case you worked up an appetite."

"Hold on a second." Karla darted into the back room, where the more explicit toys were kept, and came out triumphantly brandishing what was, indeed, a pineapple toy link NSFW and showed it to Jack.

"Maybe not real fruit," she said, as she came back in. "But dried or candied, so it won't go bad?"

And for the requisite 'sweet' pun, of course.

Jack was too mesmerized by the toy to answer for a moment. "It looks like an alien life form," he murmured, then pointedly turned away to find Karla's gaze. (He'd been right. A pineapple would hurt.) "Dried, candied, maybe jam or cookies?" he suggested. "It would be ... juicy."

Well, at least he didn't say 'sweet.'

"Damn you, Jack," Karla said, floating the toy back into the other room while she reached for a pencil. "Now I'm going to have to find some way to work that into the basket." She jotted down a few ideas and wrote 'JUICY' in large letters and circled them, before looking back up at Jack to mock-scowl.

"You are a bad influence," she declared.

"That's the point of older friends, isn't it?" Jack asked airily. "And it's not as if you've ever needed me to buy you liquor. Sex toy sales pitches are the best I have to offer."

"You could always try to get me to take up smoking," Karla suggested, dimpling at him. "I'm sure there are plenty of ways you could corrupt an innocent witchling from some far away territory."

The hardest part would be finding the ones Emma hadn't already claimed for herself.

"Plenty, but if smoking is where you want to start, I still have some very good cigars Emma got me in New York," Jack said brightly. "You're welcome to one if you want. Just not in my hotel room. They get tetchy about it."

As he'd learned from a rather irate maid.

Sometime after Jack had stopped by, an Emma came waltzing in. Partially to spend some quality time with Karla, and partially to browse the wares.

Which was...nice, after her week of hermiting and hibernation.

"Putting together displays for the store," Karla said, turning over her notebook so Emma could see her notes for a beach-themed window display, complete with scattered bluesea salts to mimic the ocean. All links NSFW

"Maybe people will be more inclined to stop in with displays up," she added.

"If you're that bored, darling, I could probably show up more often," Emma offered as she flipped through the notebook. "Are these personal recommendations, or just themed ideas that look like fun?"

...Though there was a little butterfly in the 'garden meadow' scene that she could offer personal testimony on.

"I can hear you," Emma reminded her cheerfully as she continued to browse Karla's ideas. "And if you have a jar of the sea-salts in stock, I'll take those."

Karla was just going to ignore that little comment, instead going to grab a jar of the sea salts off its shelf near the back. "We've got some in blue and some in green," she called back. "Any preferences?"

And on a psychic thread where no squirrels could hear, she added, *I have a feeling I'll be needing those less anyway.*

Mmm, smug.

"Variety is the spice of life, isn't it?" she asked, totally innocently. "I'll take one of each, unless you can recommend a nice bubble bath."

She was totally stealing Jack's bathroom for all this, yes. It wasn't like there was a nice tub good for a soak at the dorms.

"We've got something called 'Cleopatra's Erotic Bubble Bath Kit,'" Karla reported, looking around the rest of the shelf. "And it comes with a coupon for half off a book purchase here in the store."

Hmmm. That might be something Karla would pick up for herself.

"Not that there's any good soaking tubs in the dorms or cabins..." she realized, standing up to give Emma an amusedly inquisitive look.
