Colorado Countryside to the Causeway: Thursday night [6-16-11]
Mercy had finally decided that this was a great opportunity to make her first shift since she'd left Montana months ago. She waited till dusk, then crossed over the causeway and hiked along until she found a nice secluded area. She stripped down, tucked her clothes into her pack and hid it under a handy tree, then shifted. As always it was a quick, easy, almost instantaneous change. She stretched happily, reached up a paw to scratch her ear to get out the last tingles from the change, and headed off into the countryside.
It was fabulous to be able to run full out under the rising moon. She chased after a few squirrels just for the fun of it, then made a concerted effort to chase down a rabbit for a meal. After that she played. There really wasn't another word for it. She ran, splashed through a small creek she found, dozed for a bit, then reluctantly headed back towards the causeway. Somehow though she'd wandered a bit too close to one of the ranches and the next thing she heard was shouting and the blast of a shotgun.
She ducked the first blast, but got caught on her left flank with the second. Yelping, she made her way as quickly as possible to cover, then slunk and limped her way back to where she'd left her pack. By the time she got there, she was a mess and shifting only made things worse. She pulled her clothes on, cursing the whole time, then limped the rest of the way to the causeway. She took a moment to collect herself before crossing over, but knew there wasn't anything she could do about the blood and mess until she could get somewhere to clean up.
And some of the buckshot was going to need to be pulled out. Great. It's not like she was back in Montana with a doctor used to this sort of thing nor was she prepared to strip down and ask some new acquaintance to pull the metal out.
Well, she'd just muddle through the best she could.
Mercy took a deep breath and started across, limping and cursing under her breath as she went.
[ooc: For one who knows who she is and up early for great SP justice.]

Spotting the limping Mercy, Caroline pushed back the hunger, knowing she needed to calm herself down if she was going to get through helping an obviously bleeding human. She dropped her bags and sped to the girl's side in an instant, reaching for her arm. "Mercy! What happened?"

She gave Caroline a weak smile. "Hey. Got myself shot. Smart, huh?"

She grimaced. "Yes. I got shot in the ass and I need some medical treatment, but I'd really prefer not to go to a hospital. Too many questions, you know?"
They'd be too likely to wonder why the buckshot pattern didn't make sense now that she was back in human form.

Maybe if she could just walk into the clinic on her own two feet?

"Hey, you'd totally have done the same for me," Caroline told her. "Well, maybe not the carrying thing." Mercy didn't look all that strong.

She put a hand over her eyes to give herself a moment. "This so sucks."

"Fair enough," she said after a moment. "Once all this mess is taken care of. Privately, though, okay?"
