It had been impossible to stay inside considering their new location. The temperatures were mild, the sky was bright and blue and they were in a place Bod would have never even imagined going. Atlantis was something he read about in books and saw in movies. It wasn't a place you were supposed to be able to see from a window or from across a stretch of land.

Bod had woken up early to take a nice long walk around the island and was now sitting outside the bakery with a few donuts on a plate in front of him and a mug of hot chocolate cooling on the table. Maybe it wasn't proper weather for that but he really loved chocolate.

Legs stretched out under the table, Bod pulled his sunglasses down across his eyes and really just set out to enjoy the breeze and the wonderful weather. Really, he thought he could sit here all day and just think about nothing at all.

Bod hoped maybe this was the beginning of a string of good days. There hadn't been a lot of those lately. Optimism was his friend today.

Kate was intending to head off the island to make up for how little she'd accomplished yesterday. But all that could be pushed aside for a moment when she spotted Bod and took a detour to his table.

"Hey, you."

"Hullo there," Bod said, smiling up at her. A second later, he was standing up and moving closer to greet her with a light kiss. "How are you?"

"Better now," she joked, more than willing to partake in a hello kiss. "You?"

"It's been a good day so far," he said, pulling out a chair for her so she could join him. "I'm enjoying the new location, I'm eating way too many sweets and now I get to see you."

"Oh?" She smiled as she took a seat on the chair. "Do I get sweets too or are you planning to keep over-indulging?"

"I don't know if you like these particular sweets," he joked. Considering her sweet tooth was vast and didn't discriminate, she probably liked more sweets than he did.

Bod pulled his chair around next to hers and reached for the bag of donuts. "I wouldn't want to upset your stomach, now."

Kate gave him a jokingly long-suffering look for that. "Because my stomach is so easily upset. And I'm really picky about sweet things."

"True," Bod agreed after a moment's thought. He turned the bag towards her and nodded. "Help yourself. Of course you can have some my sweets. There's no one I'd rather share with."

"'Cause I'm your favorite sweet." Or something. Whatever. She reached her hand into the bag for a donut. "Ooh, donuts."

"You are my favorite sweet," he said, moving his hand to curl around the back of her neck so he could brush his fingers back and forth lightly. "What brings you into town today?"

"Thought I might go visit our new mainland," she replied, sighing quietly at his touch. "I was gonna do it yesterday but it's like I never really got started on the day."

"I had a similar thought," he shared, nodding. "It really does look gorgeous over there, doesn't it? I think this is my favorite place so far. I could stay and just look at the skyline forever."

"I couldn't," Kate replied with a little chuckle. "I'm way too restless for that. But it's really pretty for now."

[therewaslife]

"I could do the looking for us both," Bod decided, nodding. "I can look and you can bounce back and forth around me, doing things that would keep you busy."

He smiled over at her and reached in for a donut of his own. "You take the risks and I'll be the stoic one."

"Seems like you've got it all figured out," Kate replied, smiling over at him. It was not at all dopey. Shut up. She took a bite of donut and chewed thoughtfully. "Of course, that's pretty much what we always do."

"It is," Bod agreed thoughtfully. "I'm sure I have it in me to take risks but I don't think you have it in you to be stoic for too long. So, does that mean I should be more risky?"

"Does that mean I should try to be more stoic?" Kate countered. "Shouldn't we just be ourselves, isn't that what we were taught at kindergarten." A beat. "Well, I was. You weren't."

"What if I wanted to be risky?" Bod proposed even if he didn't know if that was true. "Would that count as being myself if it was my choice?"

"Yes," Kate decided after briefly thinking it over. "Being yourself is probably kind of a flexible concept anyway."

[therewaslife]

"Hmm." Bod rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "What risks should I take today to prove that I can both take risks and enjoy risks sometimes? Spontaneity shall be my goal."

"Well, if spontaneity is your goal," Kate noted, amused, "then you probably shouldn't be asking about what risks you should take today."

"That was more a rhetorical question than anything," Bod explained, tapping his chin. "Besides, I know a risk I could take that might completely and utterly shock you."

Bod had the idea but he had no idea if he'd go through with said idea.

"I doubt that," she replied, raising an eyebrow. "I'm unshockable."

Sort of.

[therewaslife]

"I actually think this would shock you," he said confidently. "I doubt you'd expect it and I doubt you'd think I'd go through with but I think you might like it in the long run."

Was that cryptic enough for her?

Judging by Kate's curious expression, it probably was. "Yeah, it's kinda hard for me to judge from all that vagueness."

"Oh, did you want me to tell you?" Bod asked, trying not to smile. "It probably would be wise to tell you, wouldn't it?"

"I don't know about wise," Kate replied, shaking her head. "I don't care about wise. I just want to know."

[therewaslife]

Bod smiled at her and leaned closer to kiss her cheek. "What if I'd like it to be a surprise until after I do it? Would feel that you missed out?"

"I have no idea," Kate replied sincerely, even as the kiss made her smile. "Because I have no idea what this hugely shocking thing that you're planning is."

Bod sighed and stood up, making a show of stretching and letting the sun warm his face. "Maybe I'll get a tattoo."

That was his hugely shocking thing. He smiled down at her, trying not to give away the fact that he might not even do it but the thought, the spontaneous desire was there.

Shocking might not have been entirely the right word, but Kate was definitely surprised by that. Very very surprised. As evident from the way her eyebrows bounced.

She let out a laugh, staring up at him. "What?"

"I think I might get a tattoo," Bod repeated, crossing his arms and sighing. "What do you think?"

"I... don't know what to think," she admitted with a chuckle. "Though I'm sure it would look awesome on you."

Of course, she was biased. Very much so.

"I think that would be dependent on what I chose to get," he pointed out, laughing. "I know there's a place that does them on island but I think I might venture off for this."

[vanillajello]

"I trust your judgment enough not to get, like, two Smurfs doing it, or my name across your forehead," Kate returned. "And hopefully that's off the island as in Maryland, and not... wherever it is that we are now."

"Well, I was thinking about getting your name across my back in giant letters but now I don't know," he said, frowning melodramatically. "That was my one idea too."

"That would be... extraordinarily creepy," she told him, snorting. "I think in reality you have better ideas than that."

[therewaslife]

"I don't have any ideas at all," he admitted, shrugging. "I just think I might want to do something like that, something risky and new and permanent. I'm sure I'll find something that I like."

"I did," Kate noted with an easy shrug. "It's not like mine was hugely planned out, either."

[therewaslife]

"Do you think I'll actually go through with it?" Bod asked curiously. He hadn't seen any real disbelief in her.

[vanillajello]

"You know, I really can't tell," Kate admitted. "You might? I'm seriously not sure if you're actually considering it or just joking around."

[therewaslife]

"Well, the desire is there right now so I'd do it right now," Bod said, scanning the horizon. "Perhaps you'll even get to see as early as tonight. Maybe I'll come back with something, maybe I won't."

Kate smirked up at him. "Well, you are definitely sounding all spontaneous and open to possibilities right now," she remarked. "Very risky and potentially dangerous."

"So, perhaps I'll see you tonight?" Bod asked, raising both eyebrows. "I might have something new or I might just arrive with a hot pizza and a sheepish expression."

"Either option is fine with me," Kate assured him. "I'll even accept some kind of a combo."

"Excellent," he said, leaning down to give her a light kiss. "So, it's a date for later to either see if I was risky or to eat pizza and cuddle?"

[And yes, go for it!]

"It's a date," she murmured in agreement. "I'll wait with baited breath to see which route you chose."

[therewaslife]

"I'll be there," Bod promised because he would. Either way, he'd be there. He gave her one last kiss before he headed off towards the mainland to do...something.
