Fixer-Uppers [Wednesday]

Although William hadn't fought any of the mechanical spiders, he'd still ended up with a substantial collection of parts, which he was now sorting and catalouging. Not that the store really needed scavenged parts, but William found them interesting, especially since his forays onto the mainland had revealed that their last locale had existed in a time rather close to to his own.

Rilla came in with a wicker basket. "Susan sent goodies again and I can't possibly eat them all," she informed him.

"Oh dear," William said solemnly. "You'll have to find someone willing to help you out of such a predicament. I don't suppose you've anyone in particular in mind?" he teased.

"I was hoping you might have a few suggestions," Rilla said. "I don't suppose anyone here enjoys strawberry tarts?"

"well, I can't speak for these fellows," William gestured to indicate the pile of disassembled spiders, "but as it happens, I am quite fond of Strawberry tarts."

Rilla wrinkled up her nose at the spider parts. "So I guess they weren't teachers after all. Miss Edison and I were slightly concerned about that possibility."

"oh no, no," William assured her. "the creatures were quite common over in the settlement near ou previous stop. Definitely not transformed island residents."

"Oh, good," Rilla said, looking relieved. "They tried to eat one of Miss Edison's shoes."

Not really.

"That's terrible!" William said sympathetically. "I hope they weren't successful?"

"I don't think they really enjoyed the leather," Rilla said. "Then we shut the door and refused to look any longer." She held out a tart. "Dessert?"

"Well, I'm pleased the two of you- and Miss Edison's shoes- escaped unscathed," William decided. "And that would be lovely," he added, taking the offered tart.

"It was very unpleasant," Rilla said. "Have you been over to our new island? I've heard that it's Atlantis."

"That's what I've heard as well," William said. "I'm hoping to make it over in the next couple days. The beginning of my week is rather crowded with classes and the like, and really, Atlantis is the sort of thing that demands at least a day's uninterrupted attention."

"We don't have any classes at all next week," Rilla sighed. "Do you think it will stay in place that long?"

"I do hope so," William replied. "I've yet to establish any sort of pattern as to the length of our stays at various points, but two weeks doesn't seem out of the question."

"Should we take an excursion next week, then?" Rill asked excitedly.

"I'd be delighted to," William replied with a pleased grin.

"I'll pack a picnic," she offered, "and we can make a day of it."
