Cafe Luke's, Monday

So it didn't look like GD was going to work out exactly what managed to send Vincent and his cafe winging across space-time to meld with another restaurant any time soon and Vincent needed something to spend his time on while he waited, so running this Luke's place seemed the thing to do.

At least he had his fridge. Vincent without access to his enormous stocks of varied ingredients wouldn't be a pretty thing to see.

Bastilla
Ma'amoul

Luke's was open, under new management, and feeling a little Moroccan, today.

OMG, he's finally here!

After finishing his broadcast for the day, Jack had headed out for a run around the island and then through town.

However when he came upon "Cafe Luke's" he slowed down and eventually stopped in front of the restaurant. He tilted his head and studied the place for a good ten minutes as the place looked both familiar and different at the same time.

Cautiously he opened the door and headed inside only to see a very familiar sight behind the counter.

"Vincent?!"

Vincent looked up from where he was wiping down the counter. "Sheriff?!" He paused and frowned. "Why do you look like you're about Zoe's age?"

Jack's face twisted in confusion. "You don't remember? There was a thing about me being cloned and Fargo pushing a button? I went to Tesla High School before they sent me here? Come to think of it why are you here?"

Vincent shook his head slowly. "No, no that's not ringing any bells. And I think I'd remember something like you being at Tesla."

Jack paused a moment. "Are you sure?" he asked. "Maybe you had some of that chicken that Carol created that made everyone lose their intelligence?"

"I'll have you know I vet all my suppliers very carefully, now." No more 'organic' chicken breasts grown without the rest of the chicken body for Vincent. "I can check with the others back in Eureka for you, but if they know about any cloning, they didn't tell me. Of course, with Dr. Blake on maternity leave, the only person I seem to be able to reach is Fargo."

"Yeah, and I'm sure he's a lot of help," Jack said with a sarcastic roll of his eyes before doing a double take. "Wait! That can't be right. I talked to Zoe last week and she said that Allison was still in charge. Did something happen? Is she okay?"

Yep. That would be Jack's concern for Allison kicking into high gear.

That surprised expression on Vincent's face had nothing to do with the concern for Allison -- really, could Jack be any more transparent? -- but everything to do with the apparent memory loss that went along with being cloned.

Not that that was all that unusual in Eureka, either.

"Were you playing with Dr. Fontaine's memory globes? Zoe's the one who helped Dr. Blake with her delivery."

"Hey! I haven't played with anyone's globes since I got here," Jack protested before realizing that sounded slightly dirty. "I was fired though, right? And then SARAH went neurotic and started the whole thing with the gravity wells and then had Walter clone... well the other guy resulting in me."

"Sheriff Andy," Vincent confirmed. "Then Dr. Golden stole Jo's face and sang the most amazing number to Fargo at my karaoke night. But, uh, no, I didn't here about any cloning in there."

Jack groaned and rubbed his forehead. "Ahhhhhhhhh crap. This is one of those alternate timeliney-univeral things," he said with a frown. "How the heck did you even get here? It looks like you brought half of Cafe Diem with you."

"Someone pushed a button." Vincent gave a long suffering sigh. "Near as I can tell, it set off an interdimensional teleport system which blended Cafe Diem with this 'Luke's Diner' place, zapping me along with it. Which I'm pretty sure was only theoretical."

"Fargo?"

Yes. That was the most obvious question to ask at this point.

Hey. It's what he does.

Vincent shrugged. "He's denying it. I think he's getting cranky without any Vinspresso. Speaking of," Vincent looked around to see where the coffee maker had ended up. "Let's get you something to eat. We have a gorgeously lean North African lamb with honey and almonds, served with saffron rice."

Hope in Vincent sprang eternal.

Oh, Vincent. You should know better.

"Actually, I was kind of in the mood for a burger?" Jack asked. "With American cheese?"

"They couldn't have cloned you with a better palette," Vincent said, resigned. "Coming right up, Sher -- er, Jack."

"Thanks, Vincent," Jack said with a happy grin as he slid onto seat at the counter. "Is the coffee still free?"

Then Jack scratched behind his ear. That's funny. Was his hair growing?

"This time," Vincent decided. "Because it's good to see a familiar face." He prepared the Vinspresso just the way the original Jack of his world liked it and hoped this one didn't prefer it differently. "There you go, and that burger will be right out."

"Thanks, Vincent. You don't know how good it is to see a familiar ARF! ARF! ARF!"

...

Okay what the hell was that?

"ARF!"

Oh, crap. I'm a friggin dog!

Vincent stared. Rather a lot.

One saw a lot when one lived in Eureka, but spontaneous transmogrification was a new one on him.

". . . Okay then," he said at length, and reached out to move Jack's coffee well away from Jack the dog's range. "I'll just cancel that cheeseburger, shall I?"

//What?// Jack barked in dismay, //Oh, come on! This so isn't fair! You could at least give me the cheeseburger!//

Unfortunately, Vincent didn't speak dog. Jack wanted Taggart for that.

"Let's see, you could probably just do the ground chuck. . . ." Vincent wasn't sure exactly what non-robotic dogs could digest, but he figured ground beef probably wouldn't be bad for it. "Unless you want some lamb," he hazarded.

No! No Taggart! The last thing the island needed was a crazed Australian hunting students!

//Oh, come on!// Jack whined and laid his head down on the counter giving Vincent a pitiful look. //Cheeseburger? Fries?//

Vincent wasn't entirely certain Jack actually understood him, currently. Which might work in his "get him to eat lamb" favor.

"You'll love it," Vincent assured him. "Lowjack always did."

Because Lowjack was totally the go-to example of a typical dog.

Lowjack also had a higher IQ than Jack.

This did not bode well. This did not bode well at all.

//Awwwww, man. I just can't cut a break.//

Not from Vincent, anyway. He brought out a plate of unseasoned lamb -- no telling what herbs and honey and things would do to a doggy stomach.

"Am I going to need to get you a leash?" he pondered out loud, as he pulled out his phone to snap a picture.

Zoe -- some Zoe out there in one of the universes, at the very least -- would want a photo.

There needs to be way more resources for Vincent icons, omg.

LOOK AT THAT FACE. HE'S ADORABLE!
