The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Evening
Of course Emma had skipped the newbie weekend. She had a player who was afk graduated and had important things to do in the city, before she was living there full time. Besides, the fireworks in NYC were fabulous.
Since it was her night to work, she had wandered back just before opening. It was entirely possible that a particular little telepath had stayed up far too late, as she found all the fervent 'Americana' funny, especially since she knew exactly how patriotic so many of the revelers were.
The Devil's Nest was open, and tonight Emma was handing out glow-sticks, since sparklers were a Bad Plan.

Emma's Station
Re: Emma's Station
He grinned at the young hostess. "The bar has a cover tonight? Is there live music?"
Re: Emma's Station
Also, jean shorts were not-quite-dress-code, but she was willing to let it slide.
"There's always a cover at Devil's Nest," she replied, dimpling sweetly. "And while it's not live musicians, our house DJ is constantly mixing tunes and trying out new tracks."
Re: Emma's Station
Not that he could imbibe as was his former habit anymore, but Herc still had standards.
Olympians did not drink Miller Lite, for instance.
Re: Emma's Station
Re: Emma's Station
He pulled out his wallet. "How much is the damage?"
Re: Emma's Station
handwaveytotal. "While you appear to be of legal age, you never know around here."She could peek, yes, but that seemed almost too easy (and boring) with someone this open. Emma was pretty sure she'd be able to hear him across the country.
Re: Emma's Station
They tended not to issue drivers licenses with birthdates in the BC.
"I hope this suffices," he said, showing his old Victor Tegler ID from the whole 'Civil War' fake identity time. "I don't have one with my real name on it. I have trouble with that."
Hey, at least he was honest.
Re: Emma's Station
Re: Emma's Station
He always thought that sounded impressive. Herc just liked saying it, really.
Re: Emma's Station
Which of course necessitated a peek inside his brain and Emma almost blinked under the sheer amount of memory in there. He was either utterly delusional, or actually Hercules. Either way, he was legal.
"You are, aren't you?" she mused, handing back his ID along with a wristband to show he was the proper age. "You should go visit Chuck at Caritas sometime. I hear he does decent fakes."
Re: Emma's Station
Re: Emma's Station
It was his way of telling her he missed her.
Re: Emma's Station
"There were some splendid fireworks," Emma continued as she marked his hand and then offered him a glow-stick. "But that's it, truly."
Re: Emma's Station
"Better weekend than mine," he said. "I got some bad news, that's about it. I like that the island is by London now. We should go someday..."
Re: Emma's Station
Re: Emma's Station
He squinted a bit at her question, trying and failing to make the shift in topic somewhat less awkward. "Oh. Er. Did you take Mitchell's class when his friend Annie visited?"
Re: Emma's Station
Although Emma's heart was already sinking, as nothing to do with Mitchell ever seemed to turn out well.
Re: Emma's Station
Jack opened his mouth to explain, then thought better of it and gave Emma a small, apologetic smile instead. No point getting her worked up, not when neither of them could do anything. "She was a ghost," he said. "Sweet girl, when I saw her. She ... moved on to another world. Mitchell's broken up about it, is all."
Re: Emma's Station
Sorry, Jack. Telepath.
Re: Emma's Station
Whether he was normally a good liar or not didn't matter; at this point, he couldn't lie to Emma.
He suspected this might lead to trouble.
Stepping back, Jack added aloud, "What day would you like to go exploring in London?"
Re: Emma's Station
"Any day you like," she promised, drawing back slightly and giving his hand a squeeze. "I don't have any TA responsibilities this term."
Re: Emma's Station
"Friday," he suggested. "Then we can stay the weekend,. if we want."
