Mystery Sign Theatre 3000, Wednesday

For once, Kate was in an okay mood upon coming to work. Some of her coworkers weren't, on account of her having missed yet another shift last week, but she paid them no mind. It wasn't like it was her fault she kept getting turned into a cat or yanked away to do shit that was far more important than running the concessions stand hardly anyone visited.

And in any case, she was there now, and that was all that mattered. Not that she seemed to be working too hard, mostly engrossed with some things on her phone and jotting down a list of things on a small notepad.

But hey, she'd picked the movie for today!

MST3000 was open, and enjoying not being a cat anymore.

After helping a cat, a young girl finds herself involuntarily engaged to a cat prince in a magical world where her only hope of freedom lies with a dapper cat statuette come to life.

Ugh, I have so many things I should be writing right now. Dun wanna.

Despite the cold, Bod had both gone to class and was now pushing his way into the theater for a visit with his favorite girlfriend. He was definitely bundled up though, hat, scarf, jacket and boots but he was smiling.

Maybe he liked the cold. Or maybe he just liked her.

Kate was going to choose to think it was the latter. "Hullo, you," she greeted him with a wave of a fingerless-gloved hand and a smile. "You're looking pretty warm."

She had, too, but her coat and scarf and adorable sock monkey hat were all in the back room for now.

"I'm feeling pretty warm," he said, giving her a wave while he headed over, pulling off his hat and scarf as he did. "Warmer now that I'm inside but I quite like cold weather. How are you today?"

"I'm just peachy," Kate replied, idly flipping her notepad over so he wouldn't see what she'd been writing, before she shrugged. "Nothing much going on."

He didn't see what she was writing but he definitely saw that she'd turned her notepad away from him. He just smiled but said nothing else.

"You would think the weather might send people places to stay warm for awhile," Bod said, finally coming to lean on the counter across from her. "Perhaps they're all just staying cozy in their dorms rooms. Mine was quite warm before I set out to see you."

"I know, mine was too," Kate replied with a mock wistful sigh. "Warm and empty. Bobby's gone off somewhere again, there was a note when I got back."

"You're used to that though," Bod pointed out, nodding. "He tends to go off about as often as you transform into a feline. It's a common occurrence for room three twenty four."

"He skips town way more often," Kate claimed. "Whereas I seem to be on this twice a year schedule of catdom. God, I hope that doesn't follow me after I leave."

"What, you don't think your aunt would suddenly tolerate having a cat in place of a niece?" he asked, snickering.

"I don't even want to think about how that would go," she replied, wrinkling her nose. "She would have a total shitfit over hairballs, for one."

"Doesn't your brother know these things happen?" Bod recalled. "At least he'd know what to do if he suddenly saw a familiar looking cat glaring at the front door of your aunt's house."

"Yeah I don't know if he'd put two and two together like that," she said, and the nose wrinkle didn't go anywhere. "I don't know, I just hope none of that happens back there. We get enough transformations with Mom."

"You'll be fine," Bod said assuredly, reaching out to tap her nose. "Really, you can only hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Unexpected and unusual things happen all the time."

Well, he'd put his hand in the general vicinity of her mouth, so Kate tilted her chin up a bit and tried snapping her teeth at his finger a couple of times, not really looking to catch it.

"Yeah, like you showing up here."

"Showing up at the theater?" Bod asked, pulling his fingers away with a laugh. "That's unexpected and unusual? I visit you quite often!"

"More often than most people, anyway," Kate allowed, resting her chin in her hands, her elbows against the counter. "I'm still allowed to find it unusual and unexpected."

"And why do you find it unusual and unexpected?" Bod asked, reaching to twirl some of her hair around one of his fingers.

"Because in my head this is a place that no one comes to," she pointe dout, though she was smiling a bit at his actions. "Anyone showing up is almost a miracle. Hell, that even goes for Mitchell and he's my boss."

"Well, for awhile, I didn't think I'd really be welcome," Bod confessed, still playing with the loose strands of her hair, "but I often thought about it anyway, imagined what it would have been like if we hadn't been apart."

Indeed there was. Mitchell was poking through paperwork and... well, trying to figure out a way to keep the other shareholders from demanding any more movies.
