Dite's Decadent Delight, Monday Afternoon
Karla wanted to go home. Not because she was opposed to being on vacation, whatever certain other parties might think. But...something on the island felt weird. Very weird. Downright creepifying, in fact. Whenever she closed her eyes, she saw little flashes: a wheat field suffering from a creeping blight. Pallid mushrooms that spread and leeched life from the soil. A cold wind that blew right through clothing and froze people from the inside out.
The announcement over the loudspeaker wasn't doing that feeling any good, either. As Karla cleaned up the store and went over the stock, she wondered if maybe she could convince Warren to vacation somewhere else instead...

Talk to Karla
Re: Talk to Karla
while he was doing some errands and decided it needed to be puzzled over.
"Did you hear the mayor's announcement in here?" he asked, as he stopped in and wandered through the store until he found Karla. "Things are going spooky again."
Re: Talk to Karla
So much for a vacation.
Re: Talk to Karla
It was more idle observation than anything; he was curious how things were going for her, but more curious about why the campgrounds were suddenly off-limits.
Re: Talk to Karla
One day, Karla would learn to just avoid the island in early August. One day.
"The land feels wrong," she added, because that was helpful. "It's making me twitchy."
Re: Talk to Karla
He worried at his bottom lip with his teeth. "I don't feel anything, but I wouldn't. Can you tell anything besides wrong?"
Re: Talk to Karla
She'd feel worse about that, but Fandom wasn't exactly the most academically rigorous.
At his request, Karla scrunched up her nose and tried to explain some of what she was feeling. The easiest way was to tell him of the odd visions she had and then go from there. Unfortunately, there wasn't much there to go from. "I can't even tell if what I'm feeling is something healthy being leeched away or something unpleasant being sent through."
Re: Talk to Karla
"It could be both," he said, because he always went for the worst possibility. "I'd say it was a good time to leave the island, but the truth is it's worse to be locked out when things go wonky."
Re: Talk to Karla
"So, you going to check out the part of the campground that's off-limits?" she asked.
What? It was Jack!
Re: Talk to Karla
This was a few thousand yards from a no.
"Bbesides, I'm not sure how much skulking around I can do on school grounds -- at least not while it's light out." He quirked an eyebrow. "Are you staying clear?"
It was, after all, Karla.
Re: Talk to Karla
And if that didn't answer his question...
