Instead of being behind the counter today, Rude stood inside the Post Office's doors, watching the streets outside. Should any of the bizarre wildlife try to attack, the Post Office would be defended. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night would stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
