Caritas | Wednesday

Nathan thought he should get a fucking medal for coming into work tonight. There were all kinds of creepy crawling things out there and that, in combination with being moved back to the dorms and the reports on the radio, meant Nathan was a little on edge.

With that in mind, Nathan had ordered Tino to fucking go stand guard at the door to keep anything out of Caritas. Yeah, there was a sanctuary spell and shit but that didn't mean things couldn't slink in and make him piss himself.

Not that he was really one to piss himself. Often. Or something. Whatever, Tino was the fucking muscle today and Nathan was just gonna drink to relax himself.

"Really?" Ramona called into the bar over Tino's shoulder, where he was blocking her entrance. She hadn't even actually brought the hammer with her!

Granted, that was because she could just call it to her hand if she needed it, but still. "Tino is your fucking bodyguard?"

Now, if Nathan had been nicer, he would have told Tino to get the fuck out of the way. But, this was kind of hilarious so Nathan was just gonna smirk and lean a hip against the bar.

"There's scary shit out there!" Nathan pointed out, downing a shot of rum as he did. "Tino is just protecting the best interests of the bar. Which, you know, means me!"

"Of course I don't trust him to protect me but anything that wants to get in here has to go through him first and by the time they get through Tino's stupid ass, I'll be gone."

See, he'd thought this shit out. Tino was merely a shield meant to delay anything from trying to eat him. He wasn't gonna be someone's fucking dinner.

Ramona just rolled her eyes, elbowing past Tino easily and sauntering over to the bar.

"You bought yourself a ton of time. By the way, dumbfuck, you're immortal," she added. "And in spite of that, I came out to make sure you had a buddy to get you back home tonight."

"I can still experience pain!" Nathan replied, giving her a look. "By the way, dumbfuck, pain is not fucking fun. It hurts. I was impaled on a fucking fence before I came back. It hurt. Other things can hurt. So there."

"Why are you so convinced I'd get myself hurt?" he asked, pouring her a shot of rum and sliding it across the bar. "I am all about looking out for the most important thing in the world, the diamond in the rough, the jewel that shines the brightest, thing thing that all the girls want."

He meant himself, of course.

"You're very heroic," Ramona assured him, smiling. "But anyway, are you saying you don't want me watching your back for creepy shit? Because I can take my toys and go home if you're sure you can watch out for yourself."

"That's not what I said," Nathan said, shaking his head. "You are putting words in my beautiful mouth. I just take exception to the fact that you think I'm gonna get hurt. I'm not that fucking stupid."

Ramona just shook her head, curling a finger to beckon him into leaning across the bar. "C'mere."

Nathan was a little hesitant because he didn't want her trying to smack him in the face. Pain was pain, man! And it all fucking hurt. So, he stayed back for a second.

"What for?" he asked, giving her an appraising look.

"Well, that was a weird fucking segue!" Nathan said but did put his drink down so he could lean towards her. "You went from talking about me hurting myself to wanting to stick your tongue in my mouth!"

"My wanting to kiss you and my not wanting you to get hurt are pretty fucking related," Ramona pointed out, closing the distance to kiss him softly.

No tongue for him. Just because he'd brought it up.

"They are not," Nathan had to mumble because he wanted to get the last word before he returned that kiss. Lack of tongue or not, it was still fucking nice.

It wasn't like Tino was in here, kissing him hello or goodbye and making him feel a little better about being out where there were things that wanted to fucking chew on his skinny body.

Ramona reached up to smooth his curls a little, pulling back a tiny bit. "Are too. Now, I can't get drunk -- or I shouldn't, anyway -- but I think the price of bodyguard-ness should be free liquor."

"Why can't you get drunk?" Nathan wondered, pouring himself another shot and knocking it back easily. "You afraid that if you fall down on the job someone's going to take a bite out of me or Tino's not gonna throw himself in front of something for me."
