In front of class this week was not a blond Fremen princess, but rather a dark-haired pregnant girl, who was standing before the classroom. She seemed absorbed in her own thoughts, but determined to carry out her responsibilities nonetheless.

"Lady Ghanima is off fulfilling other duties," Alice said, "and so I've been asked to teach. My name is Alice Liddell, which rhymes with fiddle. I don't know of anything which rhymes with 'Atreides' offhand. We'll do show and tell, and if you should like to take a few minutes to return to your domiciles and fetch items to display, please feel free."

Once people had returned, had any left, Alice showed off her own items.

"This was obtained for me by Lady Ghanima's twin, Leto. I believe it came from their stepmother, Irulan, who has a great fondness for hats. She had a store here in town promoting them. And this I took from a quite mad Hatter when I defeated him. I'm terribly fond of him. Lastly, this one was gifted to me by a voodoo zombie priest ... I fear I may be mistaking the word order there. I asked to borrow it, and he granted it to me. Then he was defeated, as well, and I kept it as a souvenir."

"Who should like to go next?"

What? They got to show off their own hats? Pinkie was all over that.

She ran home, and returned much faster than physics might dictate with her saddle bags bulging with hatty goodness.

Display your hats, the wilder the better. Explain the story of how you came to own them, or what drew you to them.

Also acceptable: ask Alice about her personal stash of hats.

"Here's my umbrella hat, and my fancy party hat that my friend Rarity designed and made just for me! and my top hat and Gummy's matching top hat -- he's my pet alligator -- and my other party hat which I have bunches and bunches of and my arrow joke hat and this is an ice skate that I sometimes wear as a hat even though it isn't one really at all!"

Alice was watching this display with a variety of thoughts.

"So, the tiny alligator hasn't eaten you, then," seemed to be the first one, followed quickly by, "You've far more creative hats than I."

"Oh no, he doesn't have any teeth. That's why he's named Gummy! And I couldn't find my basket hat or my rocket hat. Which is too bad, since those are the best for inviting people to parties."

"I suppose that does remove the threat considerably," Alice said. "Is the basket-hat an actual hat, or simply a basket one places on one's head? I suppose anything's a hat if one wears it on the head long enough. I always wanted to try a birds' nest, though I feared curtsying and sending all the eggs smashing to the ground."

"It's a basket with a strap. I'm sure you could get a bird's nest with a strap! My friend Rarity makes the prettiest bird's nests for Winter Wrap-Up, but I guess around here the birds make them themselves, huh? You could ask the birds to make you one!"
