Mystery Sign Theatre 3000, Wednesday

Second-to-last shift. It was Kate's second-to-last shift at the movie theater barely anyone visited but which she'd grown pretty fond of over her months of being employed. She was still yet to really register that she'd be leaving soon, but still, she couldn't help already looking around a bit like she was memorizing what the view from behind the concessions stand was like.

Sometimes she was stupidly sentimental, and today it was easy to be that way. Yesterday had been good, and she'd come to work straight from her and Bod's little lakeside hideout this morning.

It meant she was wearing yesterday's clothes, but at least she was happy.

MST3000 was open, for the second-to-last time with this particular girl selling over-priced popcorn and candy.

Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else...

Mitchell was there. He was spending some time on the phone with George, talking about his and Nina's new place. But otherwise, he was mercifully unoccupied, scribbling at his desk.

"I think box office dude is gonna cry next week."

There were no conventional greetings to be had from someone who showed up eating a bag of M&M's for breakfast.

"...What now?" Mitchell asked, blinking up from over his paperwork.

Kate raised an eyebrow as her feet took the few familiar steps to the coffee machine. "Please tell me that's just because you were distracted, and not because you don't know what I'm talking about."

"Is this still about the Barry Plodder mov--"

Mitchell paused, then sat up. "What week is it?"

"I believe it's the thirty-third," Kate replied helpfully, lightly, as she got herself coffee to go with her chocolate. "It's August seventeenth."

Mitchell ran that through his head, and straightened. "It's your last week next week," he realised, only a little late.

"Bingo," she drawled. "I'm having an okay day, so I won't bitch you out for not figuring that out quicker."

"We should do something," Mitchell said, getting up. "A thing-- you know, a thing to send you off with."

"A thing." Oh, glorious deadpan. She tilted her head. "Like, what kind of thing?"

"A staff party. Next week," Mitchell said, nodding to himself. "We'll get some drinks in-- and ooh, music, and a few real classics."

Both eyebrows up, now. That tended to happen. "... Okay then." Well, it was a party. "Wait, what are we considering reeeeeal classics?"

"Forties, fifties," Mitchell said, shrugging in amusement. "How do you feel about ~~The Graduate~~ The Guy Who Graduated?"

Kate pulled a face. "Dustin Hoffman creeps me out."

He just did. She didn't even need a reason.

"He's a brilliant actor," Mitchell argued. Beat. "Though he does have those big eyes..."

She gestured at him with her mug. "See? Creepy. Besides, I'm the one who's leaving, shouldn't I have some say in the selection?"

Although her taste was pretty... non-classic.

Mitchell looked up, amused. "So what do you consider a classic, then?"

"Well..." It was cause for pondering. "~~Singin' in the Rain~~ What A Glorious Feeling, ~~Clueless~~ I Was A Teenage Teenager..." A pause. "And, ooh, ~~doesn't have a meta and can't think of one on 4 hours of sleep~~ Boomerang."

Yeah.

Slight SP warning from me, as I'm trying to cram what little bits of knowledge I still can into my brain for my two exams tomorrow morning.
