The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Jessica was feeling a little broody that evening as she manned the door. She knew the recent graduates would be leaving the island soon, and that included Sookie. Her Sookie back home was still missing, and she couldn't help but worry that something similar would happen to tiny!Sookie. Of course, things were completely different between their two worlds. Her Sookie was older and didn't get all tangled up with vampires as early in life as tiny!Sookie had, so maybe that'd make all the difference. Still, she wondered if she should tell Sookie about Sookie being missing. Just in case.

But it felt almost princessy, weirdly enough.

Where there might be an Eric.

Eric was there, drinking his True Blood and playing Words With Friends with Pam.

"There is no way 'bice' is a word," he muttered.

Jessica flopped herself down in a chair next to Eric's. "Can I ask you a question?" she said. It didn't matter if he said no, she was going to ask anyway.

"You're going to anyway, so go ahead," Eric replied.

"Well, you know, hypothetically and all," Jessica said, "if someone knew something bad that might be happenin' to you, but not for sure because of different worlds and all, would you still want to know about it?"

Hypothetically.

Eric arched his eyebrows. "Is there something bad happening to me? Hypothetically."

"No, you're fine," Jessica said with a dismissive wave. In fact, Eric had been the only one who didn't seem to believe Sookie was dead. Even Bill had seemed resigned to it.

"It's, um, Sookie," she added.

Eric came to full attention. "What about Sookie?"

Some things stayed the same through universes.

"She's missin'," Jessica said. "I went back home a couple weeks ago just to see how things were doin', and she's been gone for a few months. Nobody knows where she is. Even Bill thinks she's dead on account of he can't feel her or anything anymore. And neither can you. Well, not you-you. You know what I mean."

Eric's eyebrows drew together, and only half because of the mention of Bill having a bond with Sookie. "She broke the bond?"

Jessica shrugged; she didn't know how those things worked very well yet. "I guess so. You know how Russell Edgington ripped out that guy's spine on TV? It happened back home right before Sookie disappeared. And then I guess Sookie found out about how Bill was usin' her and ran away or somethin', but she didn't even tell any of her friends where she was going, and Bill and other-you can't feel her at all. I'm kinda worried something bad happened to her." She was just glad that exact same fallout hadn't happened with the Sookie here despite finding out the same thing.

And since it was important to mention as well, she added, "And Queen Sophie-Anne is gone. Bill is King of Louisiana now, so I'm a princess."

Do you know what's super unattractive? Shooting TrueBlood out your nose.

So, um, sorry about that, Jessica.

"Bill's what?!"

Jessica might have thought there was nothing Eric could do that was unattractive. She might be changing her mind now, though. Ewww.

"He's King of Louisiana now," she said. "You're still sheriff, but you have to do what he says now." Which went over probably about as well as Eric might expect.

Eric's eyeroll was eloquent testimony to how he thought that would be working out.

"It's the law," he said.

Despite her worrying about Sookie, Jessica had to snicker. "Does that mean you have to do what I tell you, too?" she said. "Because I'm Princess Jessica now?"

That wasn't how it worked, Jessica.

"That's not how it works," Eric told her immediately. "So no."

It was like he could read her mind!

Jessica pouted at Eric. "Oh, you're no fun," she complained.

"I hear that a lot," Eric replied.

Jessica rolled her eyes. "But do you think I should tell Sookie?" she said. "Sookie here, I mean? The same thing might not happen to her because some things are different between her Louisiana and mine, but some things are kinda the same."

"You can ask her and see if she wants to know," Eric said.

"Would you want to know?" Jessica asked.

"In a world where Bill is king, I'm not inclined to believe much of what happens there is going to affect my life, but knowing is better than not knowing," Eric decided.

"Well, if anything weird ever happens to you, I'll tell you," Jessica said. Except it was going to be something that already happened to him, so that wouldn't be a big shock.

"I think you're the only one who hasn't given up on her," she said with a frown. "Eric back home hasn't stopped trying to find her."

"That's because I'm always very smart," Eric decided.

"Well, duh," Jessica said. "I wish you'd made me instead of Bill."

Which would've defeated the entire purpose of why she got turned into a vampire, but details.

"I have Pam," he said simply.

"Are you only allowed to have one or somethin'?" Jessica said.

No one told her these things!

Eric shook his head. "No, you can have many, assuming it's been approved, but I am satisfied with Pam."

"Pam's smart," Jessica agreed. She knew things about chainsaws! Jessica had just opted not to follow through on that advice and ran off to Fandom instead.

"So whose permission do I need to get to make another vampire?" she had to know. "Bill's, because he made me? Even if he's not around here in this world?"

"Bill's because he's your king," Eric said, and oh, that was not a very nice face to make, Eric.

Jessica had to snicker at the face.

"But he's in Louisiana in another world, and I'm here," she said. "Wouldn't I have to ask the king or queen in Fandom? But there isn't one here."

"I suppose that technically we belong in the Maryland Kingdom," Eric mused, "but I had not made myself know to the monarch there because I wasn't sure if they were aware of Fandom and I still maintain obligations to Queen Sophie-Anne."

Protecting the universe.
