Goodvalor's Little Bivoli, Sunday

Zayne was feeling pretty good today. Not only was he an actually legitimate businessman, but he had an actual employee whose purpose wasn't to shoot things or hit them with a staff. (Not that he had a problem with employees who hit things with staffs. Traditionally, that was his favorite kind of employee.)

He started feeling less good when he saw what the special was today. Zayne always felt a little weird about food from Mon Calamari. It really didn't help that the main species on the planet shared a name with a food dish on Earth. But he didn't expect most of the island to even know about these concerns, so he didn't bring it up. And anyway, it tasted pretty good.

His concerns are overruled by things being tasty. He was truly becoming a restauranteur.

It may have said something that this place was oddly homey and familiar to Guy. Goddamn Oa.

"What's the surprise?"

"For people from Earth? Probably the fact that it doesn't have any ingredients from this planet," Zayne joked. "Otherwise, I'm not sure. Nothing about it seems too surprising. Just good."

Zayne Carrick: food expert.

Guy frowned, looking at the special for a moment longer. "As long as it doesn't make baseline humans sick, I'll try it."

"It hasn't yet," Zayne said. Although Zayne himself was the only trial so far, and while he was human, his immune system was probably built differently. Still, he had faith in his chef droids. "You should be safe unless you have any shellfish allergies."

Not that it specifically contained shellfish. But honestly, that was as close as he was going to get for a comparison.

'Yet' was always a word you wanted to hear with alien cuisine.

"I'm filled with faith now," Guy replied, taking a seat. He was so going to have the ring check it out. "This place new or do I just need to get out more?"

"It's only been open for a couple weeks," Zayne said as the droid went off to place the order. "But the building itself was here right when everyone turned into gray monsters. Because I really have the best timing ever."

"Did you turn into one of them?"

"I got infected late in the week. The problem was taken care of before I even turned too gray," Zayne said. "What about you?"

Amazing what passed for small talk around here.

Guy smirked, shaking his head. "Nah, I just ended up tossing some of the deer... things around instead."

"You know, I tried doing that, but it ended with me getting drooled on," Zayne said. "It was a nice welcome back."

"I'd say it's a Fandom thing, but that's not true where I'm from." AT LEAST HE WASN'T VOMITING LAVA BLOOD YET?

"I think it's usually safe to call any really insane thing a Fandom thing," Zayne said. "But it sounds like you know a thing or two about that. Been here long?"

"Not long, but it's my second time back," Guy replied.

"Seems to be a theme around here. I graduated a year ago and came back to make my mark in the restaurant world," Zayne said.

Just in case Guy was curious why a place serving alien foods was here.

"With surprising cuisine."

"Just trying to provide a cuisine you can't get anywhere else on the island," Zayne said. "Or the galaxy."

"One hell of a niche market," Guy replied. "Get much business?"

"Enough to stay open," Zayne said. "Probably because we serve Earth food, too."

"With alien ingredients?" Look, he had to check. "Because that might be interesting."

"No, Earth ingredients," Zayne said. "We don't even have chickens in my galaxy."

Actually, they did, but only on Endor apparently. And Endor wasn't really public knowledge yet.

"...that's freaky."

"I didn't even know how freaky until spending some time here," Zayne said.
