The DJ was cranking the music tonight, but you could hear Jack's anguished cry even over that as he came in for another shift:

"WHY IS THE RUM GONE?!!!"

Good luck getting anything useful from him. He was busy sobbing behind the bar.

"So you're the one the message was from," Tyrion said. "It's not so bad as all that. Besides, if I ran screaming, I'd have to run home. I feel more useful here."

Though the brothels and taverns in Lannisport were no doubt down a major stream of income.

Tyrion shook his head. "I can almost guarantee that you don't know it. Casterly Rock, in the Seven Kingdoms. Where is it for you?"

Tyrion considered the question before shrugging.

"Like anyplace, good bits and bad bits. Fewer" -- he reached a short arm up toward the lights, swept it to the speakers -- "technical miracles than this place. My father's warden of the territory, so there are Expectations."

Anakin smiled wryly in reply. "Ahh, the Expectations. It's what brought me here as a student, actually. It's amazingly refreshing to be around a lot of people who have no idea who you are supposed to be."

"People tend to get this odd idea I'm short fairly quickly," Tyrion said dryly. "Beyond that ... yes. It's very nice to be a blank slate."

Among other things, it meant he hadn't been called an Imp in almost two weeks. This was a record.

"What were your expectations, back in that galaxy?"

"I was the fulfillment of prophecy," Anakin said, "though there were arguments about what the prophecy actually meant, and when you're 18, you take that sort of arguing as a measure of your own worth."

"Naturally," Tyrion observed. "The adults have decided you're important, so clearly that has to be true. Not saying you aren't important, of course. I don't know you enough to judge that."

He gave a brief thought to the teenage Jaime in the same circumstances, and found the thought terrifying. His brother would have been insufferable.

And he could've asked if he hadn't killed them all...
