There had been an accident at Melrose Chance Apartments yesterday. An accident that Zayne had to clean up before anyone asked any questions. An accident involving an elevator.

But with that taken care of an a foolproof cover story in place, Zayne opened up his restaurant, where he was whistling extremely innocently while the droids went about their work. Well, when they weren't having torrid robot affairs and sneaking into the office to clang against each other as if that was going to actually do anything for them. Or possibly fighting each other because a cooking droid Gigi clanged up against once was jealous of the cooking droid she was clanging up against now.

Zayne didn't understand it. They didn't even have compatible parts in their robot bodies, so all they were doing was scuffing paint and denting metal.

You know what? Zayne was just going to suggest that people not get the special today.

Luke strode through the door, eyes dry though he had been weeping copiously about the loss of his ADA.

"Carrick," he intoned. "Heard you had a little accident yesterday."

"Yeah, I fell in my pool. It was pretty embarrassing," Zayne said, completely innocently. "Fortunately, nobody saw it."

"You should put up safety railings," Luke said, nodding. "I think that's in the town code."

Probably not, no.

"Who do you think you are, the building inspector?" Zayne asked. "Anyway, I lived. It's fine."

"But what about Alex?" Luke demanded as the background music soared dramatically.

"She wasn't by the pool at all. I haven't even seen her in a couple days," Zayne said.

"Do you take me for a very stupid man?" Luke demanded.

"I would never say something like that," Zayne assured Luke.

"Good," Luke said. "Because that is prosecutable. Father saw to it."

"Trust me, you don't try to get into the land business in this town without knowing what laws to watch out for," Zayne said. "This town has a bit of a reputation, after all."

"A place for growing to your full potential, provided you don't piss anyone off," Luke recited.

The Chamber of Commerce really needed to work on that slogan.

"That's all I'm trying to do," Zayne said. "So why would I mess with the pretty lady in your office? I think we both know that wouldn't be smart."

"Then who would?" Luke asked. "Kaiser Sushi?"

"Your guess is as good as mine," Zayne said. "I'm just a guy who owns a couple buildings, not a detective."

"Neither am I but if we're dependent on Hank figuring anything out, we'll all doomed," Luke declared.

Zayne didn't exactly share that opinion at the moment. "I can't argue with that. But hey, if I hear anything about Ms Cabot, I'll be sure to let you know immediately."

"Do," Luke demanded. "It will make everything so much more...pleasant."

"Always happy to help make that happen," Zayne said. "Hey, I'll see you at the wedding, right? I'm standing up in it."

He didn't know he was technically a bridesmaid yet.

"I wouldn't miss it," Luke said. "I'm bringing popcorn."

But if you make eyes at the hospitality droid serving you, you're going to have to fight a cooking droid whose pelvic covering has been dented and had all the paint worn off. So for the love of god, DON'T FLIRT WITH GIGI.

Wow. This post really got away from me in a hurry there. I was prepared to end it at "went about their work" and then, regrettably, I just kept writing. I'm so sorry about the droid porn.
