Arms Hotel, Wednesday, 9/14

Of course Quinn had seen the new posters for Annie on her way to work. She was neither blind nor deaf. (Really? Embedded sound chips? Where did you even buy those?)

Mostly, this meant she spent her shift trying to figure out if they could be topped. It was an island full of geniuses, someone had to have perfected holograms. Or she could go for scratch-and-sniff posters that smelled like coffee, since it seemed to be most seniors' drug of choice. Or she had just enough time for a second round of cupcakes...

For now, Quinn would work with what she had. Mary still wasn't around, so she took the liberty of designating a special rate all of her own.

After an... interesting shared experience over the weekend, Bruce figured it would be a good idea to check in with Quinn and maybe find out if their Vice Principal child made any attempts on her life.

"Hey, Quinn," he said, walking up. Before he asked anything important, he had to ask, "What on Earth is crack pie?"

[Work's slow enough that I should be able to ping a couple times throughout the day.]

"It went away randomly before the end of the day," Bruce said. It was almost as if the writers had just plain forgotten about it. But that would be silly to say out loud. "And I don't even have a bruise there now, so I think I'll be fine. Did our 'child' ever end up confronting you? Or was that lost with your escape from the wedding?"

"I can't blame you. As it is, I'm sure I'll have to avoid Deadpool for weeks if I don't want him calling me 'Daddy,'" Bruce said, cringing a little.

"If that's what it was, then it's the most compelling anti-drug message I've ever seen," Bruce joked. "Related to all of that stuff, I actually have a question for you. It might be nothing, but I've been curious about it for the past few days."

Congratulations, Quinn. Bruce actually smiled at that joke.

"No, nothing that exotic," Bruce said. "I was wondering about the name Lucy. Both of us knew that was you and it didn't factor into anything else, but it was such a specific detail that it stuck in my head. Does it mean anything to you?"

"With a reaction like that, I'd be a terrible person if I didn't," Bruce said. "I promise."

"She was a Martha," Bruce said. "You're safe."

"I wouldn't say that," Bruce said. "I've moved around a few times and tried different schools myself. I can see the appeal in carving out a new identity for yourself." In fact, Bruce had done that at several of his schools, with a new name and identification each time. Granted, Bruce's reasons for this were probably slightly different than Quinn's.

"For what it's worth, I think it was a good move. 'Quinn' seems to fit you much better than 'Lucy.'"

"It really is. That's part of why I came to Fandom," Bruce said. And that was somewhat true. "I figured that if I actually settled down in one place for a while, I might be able to turn myself into a whole new Bruce." Or at least invent a new personality for himself that he could use to cover up what the real Bruce might do. Po-tay-to, po-tah-to.

"I'd like to think so," Bruce said. The fact that he was talking to someone he could easily identify as a friend may have been strong evidence in this direction. "If nothing else, I've at least learned a lot about who I am. And that counts of something."
