Cafe Luke's, Monday

[gastronomistic]

One of Vincent's distributors had dropped off four giant sheet cakes reading "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" in icing across the top. He was on the phone with them now.

"When have I ever ordered any premade food from you? . . . Because it's not my birthday! . . . Yes, I'm sure! . . . Look, are they at least organic? . . . I'm pretty open minded, but even I'm not sure about 'key lime cake'. . . . Well are there any side effects? . . . I'm calling from Fandom, ma'am, it's a perfectly legitimate question. . . ."

This might take awhile.

Key Lime
As far as we know, they don't have side effects!

"Oooo," Jack said happily looking at the specials when he sat down. "Cake! What do you recommend?"

Vincent sighed. "Typically, a good, rich white cake with ganache and mousse layers. But the apple spice might be pretty good, too."

"So I can't have the one with the ganache and mousse?" Jack asked looking confused. "Because I'll have the apple spice but the first one sounded pretty good to me."

Really? Jack chose this day to expand his tastes in gourmet food?

"Because I haven't had time to make it. I've spent all morning on the phone to the person who sent me the four giant cakes we're offering on special."

Yes. Jack was being difficult. But he was being difficult about cake. Cake is usually pretty normal. Mostly.

"Oh, then I'll have the apple spice," Jack said with shrug. "And a cheeseburger and fries."

And then because it had to be said:

"American cheese."

"Just when I thought there was a ray of hope," Vincent said melodramatically. "Are you sure you don't want any asiago? It's very tasty."

"I'm a simple man, Vincent," Jack said in a jesting tone. "Meat. Processed cheese. I'm all good.
