Book Haven | Tuesday | 9/27

Cassidy was a little bit over-excited. She had a job and at a book store!

She wandered around the store for a few moments to try to get the basic feel of the place again and then she went behind the counter. The cash register looked like it was going to be very interesting to get used to, but it was all part of the adventure.

Book Haven was open.

Ender had been on just a simple stroll through town, lost in his own thoughts - but passing by the windows of Book Haven meant he caught a glimpse of red hair. He paused, glancing through the door, and spotted...

...someone he hadn't spoken to in almost a year, in his timeline. "Cassidy?"

Cassidy turned to the door and grinned. "Ender!"

Sorry Ender. You now had that redheaded witch launching herself at you for a hug.

Ender... wasn't generally a fan of spontaneous physical affection, but he could see her coming. He twisted a little so it became more of a one-armed hug, and smiled. "Hey."

"I have to confess I was a little disappointed that you stopped working at the library," Ender said, a little wryly, "I'm sorry. I should have come by sooner to let you know I was alive."

"I miss the library, but maybe I'll get to work there sometime again. I like the Book Haven, though. Just like the library there are so many things to learn." She tilted her head. "Fewer wars between book subjects though." So far.

"I'm glad you're alive," she said seriously. "I wasn't sure if I was ever going to see you again when you left. How are you?"

"I'm doing fine," Ender said, with a little smile, and walked further into the shop, towards the counter. "I've come back to finish up senior year - I had an eventful summer, to say the last." He tilted his head. "But enough about me - how have you been?"

Cassidy walked back to the counter. "Eventful? Like Fandom eventful?" She looked concerned at that.

"I've been doing well. Shira has been teaching me some things and Ranon has only gotten fussy six times." Apparently, going with only a female escort anywhere spelled an accident waiting to happen according to Ranon. "Ranon actually talks without yelling now. Sometimes." She sighed. "He still doesn't know if I'm to be trusted or how I can be the Queen he needs when I'm not as powerful in Jewels as he is, but he is a little less snarly about the things I say."

She looked back at him. "Everybody was weird this weekend and a few before that. No one was who they were supposed to be."

"I was around for that," Ender admitted. "Does that mean you're having a little better luck back in Dharo?"

Cassidy let out a sigh. "Better? I'm not sure. Oh, the people in my home village are always happy to see me and teach me things. It's when I make any suggestion about going to Terreille that I get into arguments." Which she no doubt lost a great deal of the time.

"What kind of suggestions?" Ender prompted. Talking about her problems was immeasurably easier than talking about his own, and he was genuinely interested in the way the situation was turning out.

Cassidy pursed her lips for a second and then let out a breath.

"Well, first, I had to convince my family that Shira's people really did exist. That was handled finally when Clayton agreed to meet with Shira and he escorted us to my village and then back to the school."

Ender's lips quirked with something that... wasn't quite amusement. Amused satisfaction, maybe. Anticipation of the way the story would lay itself out from here. "But that was the easy part."

"That was the easy part," Cassidy agreed, leaning her chin on her hand. "Clayton tried to fuss at Shira about her safety and well, that didn't go so well. I tried to warn him that Shira could fight. But, well, he tried to sneak up on her and ended up in the pond."
